psdenno Posted June 21, 2009 Share #37 Posted June 21, 2009 (edited) thats another things I have not found many good site for parts. Is there a vendor listing for parts any where? Can some one point me to the right area beside the search button and google I just did a Google (yes, I know you said "beside google") search for "Datsun 240Z parts" and got over 61,000 links. The first two, MSA and Black Dragon have good catalog options (on-line, on CD, and good old paper & ink) that can get you most of what you might need. I didn't take the time to check the other 60,998 links. I'll leave that to you. When you check the car in person and determine what you really need, a search (yes, I know you said "beside the search button") by key word on this forum will bring tons of information. That's part of the charm of belonging to a Z forum - a huge support group and almost endless info on key topics are just a click away. Trust me, have I lied to you, yet? I have a sense that you've already made up your mind about what to do. Keep us posted on the progress. aceofspades Posted June 21, 2009 Author Share #39 Posted June 21, 2009 well my new aim is to buy rdefabri's car if it turns out as well as he says it is!http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3941&cat=
bigoak Posted June 21, 2009 Share #40 Posted June 21, 2009 Looks pretty good. Get pictures of floors and framerails. Rdef has been a reasonably active member and seems pretty much on the up and up.Ideally you want an independant 3rd party (another member who might be nearby Rdef) to inspect prior to you travelling all that way.I will point out that given your mid-west location, heading east for a Z is a little counter-intuitive...Good luck with the purchase. stevef1972z Posted June 22, 2009 Share #41 Posted June 22, 2009 Floor pans and frame rails are super important, if you cant do the work yourself, and it is huge job, the shop is going to run as much as the car. Poke on it hard before buying, or be ready to do lots and lots of work.I have a midwest rust belt car, and lots has been done to it. It takes a lot of time, or a bunch of money! Good luck, I can say it is worth it!
Travel'n Man Posted June 22, 2009 Share #42 Posted June 22, 2009 I would have to think you are steering in the right direction with your new find. I little more advise (take it or leave it- its your call). With today's low airfare it would be worth your time to purchase a ticket and go and touch the car. I bet you could get airfaire for under $250.............for the piece of mind, that money could not be better spent. Congrats on your find and by the way, it the best color out there. rdefabri Posted June 23, 2009 Share #44 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Yes, I am on the up and up! Ace and I have been speaking. I've always had a criteria that someone that will care for this car should be the buyer - he seems genuinely interested, and I hope we can make the deal. It's time for my car to go to a different care taker, as I have other projects. On another note - does anyone know of a car hauler that could take the car to Chicago for a reasonable amount? I've used McNutt in the past, they were great. Logistically, it's hard to get someone from Chicago to NJ and back again Edit - we spoke and he's able to get to Philly for less than $120!!! Problem is still getting to my place, etc, but we're trying to work it out. Edited June 23, 2009 by rdefabri
Mike B Posted June 23, 2009 Share #45 Posted June 23, 2009 to Chicago for a reasonable amount? I've used McNutt in the past, they were great. Logistically, it's hard to get someone from Chicago to NJ and back again I used a company called autolog to ship a car from NJ to the Seattle area by enclosed rail car a couple of years ago. Here is a link to their site: http://www.autolog.net/index.html. I think it was about $900 all the way to Seattle, so maybe half that to go to Chicago? -Mike
