Steve, you originally posted this question in the Front Page News forum, which is restricted (moderated). I moved it here and approved it so that it can be seen and answered.

I can't say for sure about the '72-73s, but the '70-71s definitely did not.

My 03/72 240Z did not come with a fan shroud.

It was an option for AC installed car. Factory metal one was even on the factory parts book, and it fits just below little fin. I have metal one on mine, but I like MSA aftermarket plastic one better becuase it is lighter and solid piece while factory was welded parts that could rust.

I was wondering if my '71 was missing the shroud.

Step number one is to pull your radiator and have it rodded and boiled. Give it a good paint job (except for the fins). That is usually the main problem with a car running a little warm or hot. It's amazing how much sludge can be in your water jackets in your engine. A true flush may help also. Once you got the water moving freely in your engine you may decide against the shroud. I installed on for looks more than function. It really did not drop my running temp much at all but I had already accomplished the above to-do list. You may want to do some searches on the topic and get some other folks thought process on that.

Keep us posted!

My 7/72 240 w/dealer-installed factory air (since removed) did not come with a fan shroud.

I have the fiberglass MSA one floating around the garage somewhere. I used it for a while back in the day, but it didn't seem to make a difference in terms of operating temp, and I put it on for appearance more than anything else anyway. The ironic thing is that I never really liked the appearance either, since the top of the shroud makes the little metal fan shield tab attached to the top of the rad redundant.
