June 28, 200915 yr comment_288115 Been almost 20 years since I rebuilt an L24, but if I recall correctly, you have to loosen the chain tensioner. Before you do this, bring cyl #1 to TDC and note the position of everything. June 28, 200915 yr Author comment_288119 how does one loosen it trying to do it without removing front cover. To remove the sporcket or remove chain from sprocket. Never delt with chain based systems before. How does one remove the sproket nt then? i dont see a hex on the cam to hold it while i crack the nut free. June 28, 200915 yr comment_288126 If you are just removing the cam sprocket be SURE AND WEDGE the chain so that it doesn't fall down and come away from the tensioner or the lower sprocket. If it does then you must pull the front cover. You should be able to find a area on the cam where there is raised area on one side of the cam, allowing you to apply a adjustable wrench to hold the cam and loosen the nut. I strongly suggest that you refer to a Nissan Shop manual before addressing this project.
