1970 for sale

There is a 1970 with a VIN of 06513 for sale nearby. Can anyone tell me if the carb set up is stock for this early of a car. As you can see by the photo there is no smog parts on it. It looks like a euro style balance tube. Was this standard for an early car in Canada? The owner says it has "very little rust" and wants $1250 for it.

Um , here's your chance to offer $1000 CDN and get an early car that only can appreciate in value , let alone be a cheap ticket to fun ! More pics please....,and Happy Canada Day . :)

Yes, that's a stock looking non-emissions engine for an early Canada car. "Euro style" is an improper term. That's a standard balance tube for a non-emission engine. The carb linkage is different, the exhaust manifold, air filter and the front pulley are different. I would imagine that in parts, there is $1,200 worth in that one picture alone! Yes, scoop that car up and post more pictures.

I have a 70 engine # 007249 guessing from a 04-05 240 Z and appears to have the same balance tube and linkage cast#E 41 The crank pulley is single grove . The exhaust manifold that came with the engine did have provisions for an air pump . Dan,sounds like a great find.

The first thing you want to do is compare the original engine serial number on the Data Tag - to the engine serial number on the block. Ask for clear pictures of both..

With a VIN of HLS30 06513 that car would have had a build date of 07/70. Not really what most of us think of as an "Early 70" - - more a mid-year 70.

If it was built in July of 70 - it most likely arrived in North America around Aug or Sept. Most likely sold as a 1971 Model Year - although it could have been sold as a 1970 Model Year...

True that the very early Z's into Canada were not equipped with the Air Pump, nor gasoline vapor recovery systems... but for the most part they were built in 69 or the first three months of 1970.

The original engine serial numbers for July of 1970 build dates seem to run mostly in the L24-94xx to L24-97xxx range. Although that is not absolute..

To tell you the truth - I personally can't see enough clear details related to the SU's to tell much about them..

Could be an earlier engine swapped into a later car.. ie a non-matching number car... Still worth the price if there is indeed very little rust.

OK, none of you are helping. I needed everyone to tell me not to buy it. With one stripped down in the garage, a parts car in the back. 4 motors and boxes of parts filling up the basement I am sure what I really need is drag home another car. Having said that I asked the seller for more photos and hope to have a look at it soon.

Bad news. The seller just decided not to sell the car. "Went out to take more pictures for us, then remembered why they bought it in the first place". Too bad for us, wise move on their part.
