BTW- in the picture above, what are the "anti-squeal springs" for? IMO, they are part of the anti-squeal 'system' since they only touch the pins the pads slide on.
They also fit on and touch the pad itself. The theory is to supress/dampen the harmonics caused by the movement of the pads along the pins during braking.

To bad Tom - I was lucky, my 77 was a single ower car and she didn't do much more than oil changes and replaced some FI wires. There were some other issues, but not related to tinkering. The second car has been f'ed with quite a bit so I feel your pain.
