Street racing suspected in 2 Toronto deaths

Two people were ejected from a red Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo that lost control and smashed through a guardrail on the Don Valley Parkway. (CBC)Two men died after one of two cars speeding along the northbound Don Valley Parkway in Toronto lost control Monday evening, police said.

The red Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo spun out of control, smashed through a guardrail and came to a stop on the side of the road, its roof peeled away.

Two men riding in the vehicle, one 20 years old and the other 21, were thrown from the car and died.

No names have been released.

The driver, the 21-year-old, died immediately. His passenger was found at the side of the road with critical injuries, and died a short time later.

Toronto police Sgt. Tim Burrows said police believe another car was involved.

"Witnesses have assisted us a great deal so far in our investigation [and] have led us to a point where we believe that [there] may have been ... street racing having taken place prior to the collision," he said.

Burrows said police are looking for a white car they believe was racing the other vehicle.

A 21-year-old woman survived the crash. She was also in the front passenger seat of the Nissan and was thrown from the car, but is expected to recover.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of the DVP, near Eglinton Avenue, just after 8:30 p.m. ET, closing the highway for many hours.

Thats what I was wondering too....but it said the girl was in the front passenger seat also. Surely he wasn't street racing with two people in the passenger seat. I'm guessing it was a 2+2 (which I believe the Z32TT was available in), although hard to tell from that mangled mess....

ON EDIT: I guess the turbo was only available in 2-seat form. So yes these idiots had three people in the front seats...

These kids aren't doing anything to my name, bad or good: they're on their own. Three people in the front, one was a girl (a little macho type showing off perhaps), they were street racing (period).....They were idiots on many levels....I'm just sayin... Edited July 7, 2009 by sblake01

The Z32TT was available as a 2+2 in some other markets (such as Japan) so maybe it was an imported model they were driving.

Not sure but 2+2 Turbo Z31 was definitely available in Canada...possibly the Z32 as well...

But the report did state 3 in the front seat...

Sorry, I missed the part where it said "She was also in the front passenger seat". If they were both sitting in the seat she was probably on his lap. Makes me wonder how she survived and he died but there's no telling in an accident that devastating. Whenever I see "thrown from car" I also immediately think "no seatbelt".

I think both were not wearing seatbelts...we've had pretty good summer thundershowers rolling through off and on over the last week...she found a soft landing spot...1 in a million...the guy she was sitting on also got tossed...landing wasn't as soft...

Just not smart...Darwin in action but possibly missed one...with all due respect...

We had a similar incident here locally last year involving a Jeep. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle and two of them died. The survivor, who did not own the vehicle (The owner died in the crash) and claimed to have been riding in the back seat, was prosecuted for vehicular homicide...

If I remember correctly he was convicted.

I agree. And to think of how the surviving girl must feel when she is told her two friends have passed.

And that poor car...
