No more GM bashing...

It wasn't Obama that ran GM into the ground. The "Big 3's" downfall has been in the making for years.

It was GM's short-sighted management that are fully to blame. In my opinion, it's about time they were held responsible for ingorning changes in the market, not to mention rising fuel prices and economic conditions over the last 8 years. That's why Toyota, Honda & Nissan have taken so much of their market share.

Stepp'n down off my soapbox now....

I have heard that GM was told to "get on the Stick", but this ad is a bit much-they could have just done a remake of a Village People Video and gotten a pull from the same market without the issues from those not in it!

I have owned a lot of G.M. cars, and some of them were excellent. Fuel mileage isn't really their main problem. For example, the average fuel mileage of the 2009 Buick LaCrosse, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon, and Honda Accord are within 2 MPG of each other. (The Maxima and LaCrosse tie for the worst at 22.5) Even the Lucerne which is over a foot longer and 300 lbs heaver is only 1 MPG behind that pack.

The real problem with G.M. was exposed years ago by the infamous Roger Smith quote "General Motors does not make cars! General Motors makes money!" I fear that he wasn't an isolated individual. That was the underlying "mission" of the entire culture within the company. That is why they switched most of their factories from making cars to SUVs in the 90's. They made a profit on cars, but made a killing selling over priced trucks.

As for the new G.M., I am not willing to take the chance. Remember British Leyland:

That is where nationalized industry leads in the end...

I don't think they made a profit on cars in the last several decades. I think they made a profit on trucks, and cars were included at a loss to meet CAFE standards. The idea that a car company should HAVE TO make high mpg cars just doesn't make any sense at all. Why does a company that sells Corvettes, Camaros and trucks give a $^!# about mpg? And isn't it painfully clear that they never really did? Chevy Citation? Cavalier? Cadillac Cimarron? Aveo? These are crappy vehicles. Government Motors will be forced to make more crap and cut back on the vehicles that actually appeal to the public, and it will be their downfall. That's my prediction.

I don't have a problem with GM. I have a big problem not letting them file chapter 11 and giving them BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. The same with Chrysler. Just let them file and reorginize . Now neither will have a product I would touch.

Ford did it right.
