Yes, you read that right. $2000. Tipster John O. recently wrote that a friend of his bought this 1972 Datsun 240Z from the original owner, an old lady who always babied the car. She only let Datsun/Nissan dealerships perform work on the car and kept all service records and documentation in the car’s 37-year history. [...]

Do you buy that story? It's always 'a friend of'.

There must a list compiled somewhere of these mythological “old-ladies-with-automotive-precognition-having-purchased-a-classic-before-it-was-a-classic-and-after-handling-it-with-kid-gloves-now-want-to-sell-it-on-the-cheap”. Anyone have access to this list?
I'm with you on that one, Jeremy.

I actually have a friend who did in fact buy a nearly perfect condition Opel Manta from the estate of a retired school teacher. Not a Z of course, but still those situations do sometimes happen.

And yes, I personally saw the car. In fact he let me drive it!

My Z was owned by a lady (who got old over the 23 years she owned it) who took it into the dealership to trade because it was hard for her to drive a stick. The guy I bought it from used to work at the dealer and snagged it. Unfortunately, I bought it after he refreshed it, so did not get to steal it from anyone ;) I did get the benefit of it being a low mileage car however :)
