IGNORED

240Z rear hatch body weatherstrip......

Recommended Posts

Today, I received one from MSA. The part is a generic from Taiwan and not a right fit for the 70-72......supposed to be the same for 70-78....it is not true.

Furthermore, it is garbage...... with holes in the corner sides and it shows clearly that it has been assembled from multiple parts.

Please.......can somebody provide me with an option to have a "real" one or at least a part of it as I asked before?

Here, we are supposed to be a club to help each others. It is not fair the administrators remove my previous posts when I am asking for assistance in a matter of support from members.

If the rules are now "shut off" , don't ask for support with very specific hard to find parts, don't express your frustration and get out of the board .....where is the purpose of this club?

We are the largest Z community to keep our rides as enjoyable as possible and we are restricted to ask for very specific need.......If so, I will quit.

I am detail oriented about my car because it is a first generation original. Unfortunately, there are a lot of politics here who try to restrict communication between members who could be very helpful on the boards to help to solve a specific issue about a very specific part we may all need one day or another.

My question to the administrators.......are we supposed to help each others or set restrictions to help members?

WOW!!! I've been here for almost 6 years now and have yet to come across half of the issues you seem to be having.

Like mom always says, "It's not what you ask for, but how you ask for it"

The hatch opening for 70' to 78' is the same. If you were to take that piece you just got, and try it on a 74' you'd find that you still have the exact same issue. If the part is bad, SEND IT BACK!!!. MSA is usually pretty good at returning and swapping bad stock for good. But you have to actually ask. No offence, but bitching never really gets you anywhere.

Go to the classifieds, ask for a used but in good condition seal, that you can use particular areas of, to rebuild yours. The classifieds get looked at ALL DAY LONG. And you don't have to worry about the WTB or Request of parts, slipping off the front page, like most threads do.

When you mention us as a "CLUB" you basically are blaming all of us for your being picky on the needed parts, and for the parts that YOU purchased, from an Entity that is not a member but a contributor to the site.

Think before you speak, saves you a lot of time, when reading posts like mine. Ya think?

FWIW,

Dave

Keep it cool............MSA has done a fantastic job for me during my restoration/refresh. I have purchased $1000's of dollars worth of parts and have had to send a couple of items back, some my fault and some theirs. The one's that have been their fault they have paid for shipping and have been very professional. Call them up and discuss it with them.

the stuff MSA sells is cheap Taiwan repro aftermarket and yes.....when it is cheap and doesn't make sense, I send it back. It is the reason I don't but anymore electrical components from them if it is not genuine Nissan.

Good for those who are happy and like to throw their money for cheap repro parts.

As far as I am concerned and for my need, I will not install a poor quality weatherstrip that don't even fit the body lip properly and is not the original rubber extrusion, no matter I am told it is the same between early 70-73 and up.

Two weeks ago, I found an original 76 280z in a scrap yard with the weatherstrip I was looking for. Back home, when I looked at the one on my car and the one I picked up, THEY WERE NOT THE SAME SHAPE.

I don't pretend to be a early Z guru here but please, my car is not a basket case and the original parts are shaped right and most of the repros are wrong, cheap and expensive.

Where can I find an original genuine Nissan body weatherstrip of this kind if it is still available that I could cut a 30" part of it to fix my particular problem?

The price is not an issue for the right part. The original part number is 76912-E4100 from the factory parts catalog 70-73.

Last I checked, Courtesy still sold the genuine Nissan weather strip.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/tailgate-seal-1970-1978-240z-260z-280z-seater-p-568958.html?cPath=7724_7754&

I hope that settles the issue for you and this thread can just come to a close.

When you look at the price difference between OEM and the reproduction (Black Dragon sells one made in Thailand for $50), you can see why there is a market for third party manufacturers.

It's very ignorant to sit there on your high horse and bash aftermarket reproductions as a whole as you seem to be doing in your rant about MSA. There are many parts for which the original is simply not available anymore, and when one of these companies comes in and makes a reproduction, I think that is a good thing.

In a case such as this, where the original can still be had for a higher price, it gives us a choice in the matter. If I'm not building a concours vehicle, maybe the reproduction part at less than half the price is a serviceable alternative. It leaves more supply available for those doing an all-out restoration anyway.

Simply put, if you have a problem with the way MSA or any other parts vendor does business, feel free to take your money elsewhere if you can find it - vote with your dollars. Anyway, I'm guessing they wont miss your business, because if your raving and rambling semi-incoherent posts here in this thread are any indicator, you are a difficult customer to deal with.

So far there have not been many replies relative to the number of page views, despite this being a topic many posters here have experience with. I didn't decide to reply until after the 3rd time I saw the thread, if only to give you a heads up as to why it is an unappealing one. I think your general tone has a lot to do with it. I'm not aware of your previous posts being deleted, but it certainly doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Sorry to be so blunt, but I hope this concludes the thread, and I certainly won't be clicking it again if it pops up in my "new posts" search.

So I guess that the old phrase of "You get what you pay for" makes more sense now. I personally have no real issues with spending less on a good, decent replacement. But if I'm stuck with a piece of crap reproduction part, it's my own damn fault, for being the cheap bastard that I am.

Live and learn,

Dave

My answer to this now is the same as when I deleted your previous post. Ask for or offer advice or help, tell a story, express opinions, any of that can be posted in the forums. But "cars/parts wanted or for sale" posts are ads, and belong in the free Classified section. If you want more visibility than that, feel free to become a paying site sponsor.

Just so you know, MSA offers original Genuine Nissan hatch gasket around $130 or so. It is your choice. MSA has been the greatest leader in our Z community, and always being helpful for us. For my car, I have spent over $20000 in parts from MSA alone. Whenever there we issues, they always solved them out with me. Very professional service. Please remember that there will always be issues with 35+year old car. You are not the only one tring to make car look nice. I am answering your question with respect here.

I bought a lot of OEM from MSA and for the others here on this board who don't understand, my car is not a Trailer Queen.

I am wizz off when I am asked to pay seventy bucks for a weatherstrip that don't fit a 72 but will fit a 76 I found in a junkyard. If MSA has two business standards, it is about time they update their catalog.

As far as the others offended.....take a break and cool down....I am nor trying to destroy the hobby........the parts side of this site is a joke.

For the others who think they are bright and really innovative to tell me to get a look at Courtesy Nissan for OEM......well, I probably bought there before you did and furthermore to some Canadian dealerships

Too Late, I AM OFFENDED! I was being nice at first, but now your pushing your luck. I AM a Supporter, a Supplier, and well rounded member of this site. I'm also an MSA Supplier, and for you to say that the parts associated with this site, "Are a joke", you're pointing at me directly. So I won't be cooling down anytime time soon ****1, or Richard, whatever.

Go be bitchy somewhere else. Sitting there saying that MSA, CZCC and Courtesy parts is a joke is a quick way to lose a lot of good people and quality info, by being removed from the site or some other stupid thing. I obviously don't have that authority but if I did........... I'd seriously consider it.

Hey Admins, kill this thread, it's absolutely useless.
