shiftolo Posted July 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2009 I have a 78Z I picked it up last fall and I have been doing some work on it the car has about 78,000 miles on it and it had been sitting for about 20 years, I had the fuel tank cleaned and sealed, new fuel pump and pressure regulator. When I charged the fuel system I noticed that one of the short rubber lines at one of the injectors was leaking, I also noticed that the line appears to have been installed with some kind of compressed fitting when I removed that injctor I looked inside and it appears that the rubber inside the hose had started to break down and appears to have clogged the injector, I am assuming that all the rest of the injectors will have the same problem or at the very least they will start leaking soon. I checked with autozone for replacement injectors, they don't look exactly the same so I am not sure if they will even mount to the car. I checked with the dealer and they can get the injector but they do not come with the upper injector holder on the injector. My questions are 1) is there a secret or a tool to remove the upper injector holder, 2) will an injector from autozone work as is or will it require some sort of modification, 3) can the injectors simply be cleaned and the hoses replaced. Thanks for any help out there
MEZZZ Posted July 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) I bought a set off Ebay, reconditioned, polished, matched. Here is a post to the set after I bought them.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31048I found a link to the company I bought them from, the price is up from what I paid, but compared to junk you buy from AutoZone, etc(about $40 per injector) still a great deal.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/200cc-Datsun-280Z-280ZX-Fuel-Injectors-replacement-kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2c4ffc89b1QQitemZ190320511409QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQQsalenotsupportedCheck the link out, I am VERY happy with the set I bought last year. You can send your injectors out for cleaning. I cant remember the name, something like the Injector Doctor? If you click the link on the ebay ad and look at how they refurbish these, it is basically the same process as "cleaning" companies use.
