hey Gang-

Like the teaser asks, has anyone done any experimentation with weight of shock oil? What is the stock weight for the front struts? My FSM leaves alot to be desired when it comes to this department...

Thanx, Wolf

The FSM is talking about the original strut configuration, which was not an aftermarket insert like most of us probably have now...

Do you really still have the original struts? (i.e. it's a rod with a plunger that runs along the inside of the actual strut housing, rather than a self contained insert that just sits inside the strut housing)

For aftermarket inserts, people usually just put oil in the strut housing to prevent the insert from getting rust-locked into the housing, and to "conduct heat out of the strut."

Back in the early 80's I cut 3 coils out of each spring and then replaced the oil with 30 w motor cycle strut oil. The car cornered like a champ but was a very rough ride. I also bottomed out on all the little speed bumps. I switched every thing back about 10 years ago when I really wanted to drive the car for fun and not auto crossing.
