In my quest to learn every thing about my new 260z

I'm having a hard time finding all the specs on my new car!

Such as motor specs, drive train specs and how to ID what parts I have like head, rear ends, what gear is in the car and so on.

I have looked around on google alot and other few places, but nothing.

I have tried searching on here but maybe i'm not putting in the right wording?

any help would be great i'm trying to getting it more street able and nicer to drive around!

But for those problems i'll keep them to that section in the forum thanks!

Sadly, there's not much consolidated info out there on the 260Z, just bits and pieces here and there since it was only sold for a single year here in the states before the 280Z was introduced. However, it was sold extensively outside NA for many years in place of the 280Z which (if I recall correctly) was only sold in NA. Note that there's an FSM for download over at www.xenon.com but it's missing the first 3 sections where all the specs are normally listed. There's also an 260Z FSM for sale on eBay right now and that's something that you definitely should grab if you don't have one. I would imagine that they're fairly hard to come by.

A few differences that I'm aware of purely from memory are the Engine: same bore as L24 but with a longer stroke to increase displacement, Distributor: Changed from points to early electronic ignition, Carbs: Hitachi flat-tops like the 73 had, Intake Manifold: N36 intake manifold thought by many to flow better than earlier versions, Balance tube: same/similar to the 73, not sure here, Air Cleaner: same/similar to the 73, Bumpers: early 260Zs had the same bumpers as the 73 but changed to the 280Z style later in the production run. Center console: looks like the 280Z style but I'm no expert on either, Door Panels: center insert different w/wider accent strip than 240Z chrome strip, Diamond pattern on tranny hump, rear deck face and rear shock towers changed (smaller diamonds). Some don't appear to have any diamond pattern on the rear towers, Tail lights: new to 74. Same as 280Z? Front turn signals: changed on late model 260Z. Location moved from lower valence to grill area, Paint: new colors introduced. Leaf Green Metallic, Gold and Lt. Blue Metallic come to mind but there may have been others as well.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I also have owned an early 260Z (small bumpers) since 1978. The best source of info is the factory service manual. I suggest checking with Motorsport Auto for availability. I purchased a NOS copy from them about a year ago. In addition, pick up the fiche CD from Courtesy Nissan. The CD is invaluable for determining part numbers and interchangability between years.

Good luck with the car.
