may be selling my engine

I'm wondering what my engine might be worth. It's in my 1972 240Z it runs very strong and was built for use at the ThunderHill raceway in Ca. as a student trainer. It has 3 carbs. It uses/ leaks no oil nor does it blow smoke. It runs great but I'm going to a newer Nissan turbo engine. I'd be selling it with the 4 speed trans attached. I have no idea of the value can anyone help me? It would be a turn key engine with elec ing. headers all belts, pulleys etc.

I hate to say it, but,

Unless you know someone local who is interested, you are likely to get more for the carbs than the entire engine/tranny. Your assembly won't be numbers matching to anyone elses, and an L28 and a 5speed starts looking pretty good when given an opportunity to upgrade...

Ebay is full of unsold used L24 engines, more often than not, you can't even give them away.

My experience is the same as Will's, no one is willing to pay much if anything at all for an L24, no matter how good it is. Granted, lots of the used L24s you see unsold are old and tired, but there's plenty available that are solid, good running motors. And by the time you add the cost of shipping...

Best bet is to find a Z or Datsun club whose membership is within driving distance and try to find a buyer there. If that doesn't work, you may have to (sadly) part it out.

If it's setup for mild race action, do a compression test and, assuming good compression, get it on a dyno. If it's putting out anything north of 175 you might get a bite, but even then, at most $1k, maybe $1.5k if it's shiny. Again, probably just local though.
