Posted August 12, 200915 yr comment_291688 Hi all,I'm about to get my car started and I need damper oil for my carbs but NAPA, AutoZone, and Shucks all don't have it. I went to a local import auto shop and they told me that I could just use normal transmission oil. Is this correct? Or should I just order SU carb damper oil from the BD catalog? Thanks,John Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32810-su-carb-damper-oil-question/ Share on other sites
August 12, 200915 yr comment_291690 Go to a motorcycle shop and buy 20wt. fork oil. ATF is frequently recommended, but averages about 5wt. and is not the best choice. August 12, 200915 yr comment_291708 3in1 Blue Label Motor Oil is a non detergent 20 Weight. I have been using it for years. Also any good hardware stocks 20 Weight non-detergent in quarts. Price about 3.00 for the 3 in 1 3oz container. Quarts of 20 non-detergent run about 3.00 also, but do not have the handy spout.Alan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32810-su-carb-damper-oil-question/#findComment-291708 Share on other sites
August 12, 200915 yr comment_291709 If you are drawing out of a quart container a little plastic pipette works well for sucking out and installing small quantities. Get one with the small bulb on one end....... August 13, 200915 yr comment_291746 BTW, don't over fill the oil, there should be markings on the covers you remove (the big black plastic nuts on the top) like a dip stick. It only takes a few cc's. August 13, 200915 yr comment_291785 Actually, any over-fill will just get sucked into the engine and burnt. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32810-su-carb-damper-oil-question/#findComment-291785 Share on other sites
August 13, 200915 yr Author comment_291793 Thanks guys. I got the 20 wt fork oil. I went to every hardware store around here and no one had the 3in1 blue label! So then I went to tons of motorcycle shops looking for 20 wt but everyone had like 5 and 10 wt. Eventually I found it at a Honda dealer Thanks everyone, John Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32810-su-carb-damper-oil-question/#findComment-291793 Share on other sites
August 13, 200915 yr comment_291796 I use this 20 wt compressor oil that I got from Sears http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00916427000P?vName=Tools&cName=Air+Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&keyword=compressor+oil.
