Does anyone have Reddat's Phone #?!!

Actually, I have had no problem with him and fast shipping. Shipping is a bit but no different than a shipping and handling charge. I drive my e-bay stuff to the post office to mail, but I should charge my time and gas to be honest, but If I did they would all bitch like well, not like YOU 8). I have a commercial business and Fed-ex wants to charge $15 just as a pickup charge (wtf?) and I HAVE to pass that on to the customer. If you want to restore your Z to a $20,000 Z, where else are you going to get some of those parts?

My .02$ Your mileage may vary...

Look at how many items he sells. I assure you it's no extra work to take it all or have it all picked up at once. So the extra labor for shipping doesn't fly. Now if he only sold one item a week that would be different. What I want to know is how does someone have a buy it now auction when they don't even physically have the item. When you do a buy it now on some parts, then he goes and orders it from his source. That is false advertising if you ask me. Not too mention, there are plenty of items he sells still available from Nissan which are 20-30% cheaper than him even at Nissan's list price.

I understand needing to make money but it seems a little ridiculous to me. If he just did better business practices and reasonable shipping rates, he would make a lot more IMO. Who charges $8-10 to ship a few bolts anyway!!!!?????!!!!!

That is how the bulk sellers on ebay make their money....shipping charges. It was easier before the gas costs went up and the shippers raised their prices to ship. I bought some things from Reddat in the past and had good results, except for the high shipping charges. I don't buy from him anymore though, not because I think he is dishonest or anything....just because I've found better sources.

It's irritating to go to ebay (DATSUN 240Z PARTS) ..........25% of items listed are REDDAT parts. Why doesn't he just mail out a catalog? If MSA did that it would take forever to go through the drill!! (IMO) Les and Charlie could really futz things up.

I've never bought from him, but I get so irritated with my search results, looking at 2 pages of nuts and bolts, that I set the search to eliminate anything from him.

Here are my thoughts on RedDat.

1) Virtually everything he sells as new(that actually is) is available from a dealer for less. Many of the parts he sells as Datsun parts as "a must for your restoration" are not even Datsun parts-he obviously has either no clue what a restoration is, or he does not care. Selling a BWM gas cap as "a must for your Z car restoration" tells me just how knowledgeable or honest he is. Add to that he includes only partial part numbers and it is pretty easy to see he is far more interested in selling than being honest.

2) Gouging on hidden shipping costs tells me he is not interested in being honest or upfront. Considering that the USPS will deliver free priority mail supplies and pick up the packages that they are used for for free, he is either ignorant or dishonest. (dishonest if he is claiming labor that is not in question when defending his shipping charges)

3) Both of these tell me he is an opportunity seller-Most of his auctions are for the Lazy and the uninformed.

My opinion of what a vendor should be is Honest to a fault.

If you are set up to sell a parts to a lazy or uninformed person, that is fine-as long as you don't misrepresent the parts.

Mike B posted a great and seriously inexpensive source (for everyone who is willing to hunt a part number)for those OEM Datsun parts that are still available, unless you are too lazy or haven't yet bought a club CD, why would RedDat even enter into the equation?

Will

PS,

Ebay has a rule about excessive shipping charges-I don't hesitate to remind sellers of that, and or to Ebay to look at how reasonable they are...and with the new feedback system, it is a double whammy to the seller-be honest and forthright, or your ebay fees go up and/or you auctions will be asked to leave ebay!

I assume this link is in another thread, because I don't see a post from "Mike B" in this one. Could I trouble you for a link to the thread or to the parts supplier?

Also, what club CD are you referring to? Is it a digitized parts microfiche? I've downloaded a parts microfiche, but it's so illegible that it's mostly useless.

Thanks!

Well played HLS^ Must also be why he doesn't list his shipping charges. I would actually prefer to pay 15-25% more for my 510 parts just so he doesn't get my business. Before I knew Eiji at Datsun Spirit sold bolt kits, I tried to order all the L series bolts for my car from, as well as 3 of my dads cars. I even told him that I wanted to get a break on shipping the bolts if ordering all of them for all 4 cars. His response was pathetic. He was willing to knock like $30 off of shipping which still was well over $100.

Eiji (Datsun spirit) sent our bolt kits for next to nothing. All of them together. And his prices are awesome!!!

I will stop my ranting now :)

Sarah,

My dad ordered the Z disc which contains the microfishe from this site. There is an advertisement for it that pops up on the top right corner of the page from time to time.

I just ordered some large floor plugs 3 weeks ago and needed both sides, I won the auction below the buy it now price for 2 , e-mailed him and asked if he had 2 more for the other side and in 10 minutes I had an invoice for 4( at opening bid price) with combined shipping and I knew the shipping charge up front. Why? my floor pans are fine and the plugs dry rotted and I didn't want to weld metal onto them. Came 3 days later USPS. Also this could be his business/job and things aren't cheap these days. And we all know people who would rather pay money for the right bolts then go to the hardware store themselves and match them up. I don't know him personally.

My last $.02 on this thread... peace out
