Ok I've been searching this for days and can't really figure it out. I've adjusted my floats as far up as I can. The fuel level at the carb is about 1/2-1" below the jet. Either way I adjust, I can't get the fuel level up high enough (a tiny bit under the top of the jet right?)

Choke is disconnected, (car starts without choke, is this normal for a Tropical climate?) and jets are butt up against the adjuster nut.

The float valves work fine, tested and cleaned probably 10 times now. Fuel rises and maintains a certain level like it's supposed to, except too low. I've tried adjusting to FSM and that didn't work either. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

After you adjust the float level, are you disconnecting the coil and cranking the engine over to re-fill the fuel bowls? You need to crank it for 10+ seconds to "top" the bowls off, after each adjustment.

If you have the floats adjusted all the way up, and the fuel is still 1" below the correct level, something else ain't right.

Scroll to the bottom of this page to the similar threads links. Look at the one titled "Float Height Adjustment". It should at least help you get back to square one. Most knowledgable people would caution you from changing the float adjustment as the problems usually lie elsewhere.

Why are you going for such gross adjustment of the floats? If you're as high as you say they are, you should, with the float bowl lid on and the floats in place I'd suspect you'd have gas pooled up on top of the nozzles and yes it should start without the choke, but will also run fat fat fat.

Too many people start playing with float levels when really there is very little reason to assume they, for no reason, change just hanging around in the float bowls....

Take Bruce up on his offer. Talk to him, the guys at ZTherapy are the SU gurus. They were very helpful getting me up and running right.

Ran the car for 3 minutes, shut if off and took off the dome and piston. The fuel level is at least 3/4" below the jet at 2.5 turns out, even with the float adjusted to the highest level. Something is really fishy here, talked to Bruce and even he was stumped.

The only thing that's not stock here is the fuel vent lines are unplugged/no air filter, but I don't see what difference that would make.

The Just SUs DVD is going out today. Once you watch things in action maybe something will trip a switch. I can't think it will hurt anything.
