Posted August 23, 200915 yr comment_292621 :classic:I found this 1972 240Z in a barn about two miles from my house. A couple of spare engines, 4 or 5 R180 and R200 rear ends, two extra trannys (I think one is a five speed?) etc. So my Dad, my son and I drug it home and are ready to start putting her back on the road. I hope you are all ready for some more basic questions that I'm sure you have heard before. I have attached a picture if you are interested, (wasn't sure how to insert a picture into the text?). Oh, and one last thing, the barn belonged to my Dad, and the car is the one I used to race at Mid-Ohio and Nelson's Ledges a couple decades ago. SCCA Improved Touring Sport class. Now that my son is 14 and is going to need a cool car for his senior prom we have dug it out and are making a family project out of it, COOL. I am serious though about asking stupid questions, it's been a lot of years since I've done this. Thanks in advance, Regular Joe Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32932-barn-car-find-new-project-to-start/ Share on other sites
August 23, 200915 yr comment_292622 I like where rubbing tires broke off half of the side Datsun emblem. Good luck and have fun getting your old car back on the road. You will likely end up cursing the previous (current) owner. August 24, 200915 yr comment_292639 Looks like a great project to get your kid into cars! My dad did the same for me when is was 14/15. I needed to drop in an engine, redo the brakes, patch a hole in the floor, redo the clutch. I learned a ton (a lot of which has now been forgotten unfortunately). Here's why your son is luckier than i was...I was working on a 1971 Pinto station wagon... August 24, 200915 yr comment_292650 Looks great, a real cool project. Where is Evans City? I grew up in the Lehigh Valley but since I joined the Navy 26 years ago I stayed in San Diego...Z paradise for sure. Don't be afraid to ask question but of course do the search thing first and then ask for clarification under that thread. Parts are plentiful. My schitck when I raced was to keep it as stock looking as possible. Do you like the Blue? We want to keep it the original color but maybe add a stripe or graphic and are debating on a complimenting color. don't forget the "LSD"????? Please clarify.... August 24, 200915 yr comment_292667 don't forget the "LSD"????? Please clarify....I think he means the Limited Slip Differential. So do you plan to 'detune' it some to run it on the streets or will you leave it as it was set up to run SCCA ITS?-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32932-barn-car-find-new-project-to-start/#findComment-292667 Share on other sites
August 24, 200915 yr Author comment_292675 I'm not sure about now but back then the rules really limited what you could modify, So most likely I will leave it as modified. Re-jetted carbs, header with a free flow exhaust, lower ratio in the final drive. Of course I will change the brakes to ones suited for the road, dump the welded rear end and I'll have to find a D.O.T. legal fuel cell.
