Posted August 25, 200915 yr comment_292880 So I'm looking to get some rims for my 72 240z, and have two options right now. The first is a set of stock rims from a 74 260z, aluminum 4 slot, slight curb rash, and the second is a set of 14 x 7 basket weave (possibly appliance wheels) from a 72 240z, no curb rash. Don't know anything about cars, just want to get ones that fit for the right price, and look good. Thoughts? J. August 25, 200915 yr comment_292881 Stock wheels for a 260Z were steel with hubcaps, no aluminum came from the factory.Pictures and the size of the set off the 260Z would help me decide how to advise you. August 26, 200915 yr comment_292895 Jesse-I gotta thing for slot wheels......can ya tell? You know what my choice is but the confusion is where you say "stock - 4 slot".....Arne is the site pro when it comes to tires and wheels. What ever you do, what ever descision you make, make sure to check your wheel offset......if you don't, you could get the tire rubbing on your outter fender wells which is not cool...........be sure to check that clearence to avoid tire rash with your fenders!!Good luck and get those pictures posted. August 26, 200915 yr comment_292945 Jesse: This is what the original steel wheel and wheel cover lookd like.* Note: *On original, the chrome scollope you see would of been painted grey, the blue center should be a red reflector. Very early Z's had a "D" center. ($) Bonzi Lon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32961-rims-240z/#findComment-292945 Share on other sites
August 26, 200915 yr Author comment_292980 So the guy with the 'stock' rims were off a 73 240z, my mistake! He hasn't got me photos yet. Here's the link for the 14 x 7's on ebay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320415142050&viewitem=&sspagename=rvi%3A1%3A1v_&category=43954My current wheel is 14 x 5, would the extra two inches lessen fuel economy? And what sort of price would be decent for these.... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32961-rims-240z/#findComment-292980 Share on other sites
August 26, 200915 yr comment_292982 The "red reflector" is actually more of a "metallic orange". Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32961-rims-240z/#findComment-292982 Share on other sites
August 26, 200915 yr comment_292984 The ebay ones are 14x7 Appliance Wire Mags. I have the narrower 6" version on my 240Z. The 14x7 had a 3/8" negative offset, very similar to the 14x7 Konigs of today. Will fit OK, but watch for clearance issues up front if the car has the stock front valance. If you have an airdam, you'll probably be OK. The wider size is more sensitive to balance and vibration too. That set is also overpriced, in my opinion. Possibly a bit high even at the opening bid, but with an even higher reserve and $650 BIN? Too much. If you like them, I can possibly set you up with a set of the 14x6 for considerably less, given a bit of time. August 26, 200915 yr Author comment_292995 cool, I'll let them go, then. I think I'd have issues. Still waiting for these photos of these stock rims, I'd like to know if the curb rash can be buffed out. August 28, 200915 yr comment_293149 Stock wheels for a 260Z were steel with hubcaps, no aluminum came from the factory. There was a factory alloy for the 260Z. Don't know if you got them in the US though. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32961-rims-240z/#findComment-293149 Share on other sites
August 28, 200915 yr comment_293162 There was a factory alloy for the 260Z. Don't know if you got them in the US though. In the USA, the 260Z was one year only ('74) and alloys were not offered from the factory. I believe that you could order them from the parts department, but they were so expensive compared to aftermarket rims that almost no one did. They were quite rare here in the states prior to being a factory option on the '77-78 280Z. September 7, 200915 yr Author comment_293954 So I've got some *bad* pics, they're a bit blurry. The tires on these 14 x 5 rims are P195/70R14 90s....will these tires be to big for my stock z? But the whole lot plus 4 new tires bfgoodrich radials, is $200....
