Posted September 1, 200915 yr comment_293438 I bought these door locks a week ago. I recieved it today and removed the original door lock and realized that they are not the same. The original door lock, has an L shape compare to this new one. Is there any thread of how to modify this lock? Thanks Original Lock The one I got in Ebay.... September 1, 200915 yr comment_293449 That looks like a different part for another model. Did you get a part number? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33015-ebay-door-locks/#findComment-293449 Share on other sites
September 1, 200915 yr Author comment_293460 nope. i bought this before noticing that the stock ones look different. but the title says in ebay that this is for any 240 260 280z.i am thinking of cutting the L shape on the old one and weld it on the new one. September 1, 200915 yr comment_293463 I presume these are "Great More" locks. I had the same problem when I replaced mine. I had ordered my locks before cracking open the door to remove the old ones. (Of course!) I did tell the seller that the arm configuration didn't fit my '78, but I doubt that impacted the claim that it fits all S30 Z's. Anyway, your solution sounds better than mine; however, if you or anyone else is interested in my not-so-pretty solution, I simply beat/bent a piece of steel around the arm of the lock, punching a dimple into the steel over the hold in the arm, to keep the extension from slipping off. I then bent the extended arm and fashioned a "finger" to slip into the square hole on the lock. It's not pretty, but it works just fine, and it's also easy. September 1, 200915 yr comment_293477 The lock actuation levers that attach to the back of the lock cylinders are different in the 77-78 doors than in the earlier doors. Look on the back of the cylinder and see if you can interchange the arms. The early ones have a little clip that holds it on. Many locksmiths can re-work your original cylinders to repair them if they are simply worn. Good luck! The seller is located in Singapore. I don't wanna pay for return. The lock actuation levers that attach to the back of the lock cylinders are different in the 77-78 doors than in the earlier doors. Jim Yeah they are way different. the teeth that moves the L shaped plate is broken and I don't think the locksmith can still fix it. I will take pics later on. All I can do now is I can still lock both doors but cannot unlock it. All I did is just unlock the hatch and crawl inside to open the door lock for now. . How did your solution work out for the long run? I'd like to put the doors back together before the car comes out of the barn...Do you have a photo of the finished lock? Also, is the new key anything like the Datsun key? I'd like to stay with the one key, but I could probably attach the door key to the ignition key so you don't have to go fumbling for keys twice to start the car. :classic: thxZ Edited March 13, 201015 yr by TomoHawk Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33015-ebay-door-locks/#findComment-312360 Share on other sites
