Just watch some stuff on SPEED about SEMA and saw the add for "SPECTRA CHROME" And I'm thinking it would be a great alternative for out chrome trim peices on the taillights???

Good for PVC, Nylon, plastic, wood, aluminum, copper...... etc, etc.

Looks great but I'd be worried about surface preparation. Our taillight chrome tends to get pitted. You'd have to somehow fill those pits in or smooth things out in order to get a nice finish. I'd think you'd need to treat this like any other kind of painting where preparation is everything.

This looks similar to another spray on product I have seen advertised, Alsa Killer Chrome paint http://www.alsacorp.com/products/killercans/kc/killerchrome.htm. It looks like the Spectra chrome doesn't come in spray cans though. I haven't seen either of these in person so I'm not sure how good they look in real life or how they would hold up.

For the plastic taillight trim, I think the best option is to have them electroplated, but its difficult to find a good place to electroplate plastic for a decent price. I think the best use for a paint like this would be for something that can't be removed for plating, like the chrome strips on the door panels.

After searching the site, it'slooking like a minimal order is the #5 which is 500 Sq, feet for $1560. It comes with all the thinners, hardeners, base coat, silver, clear and all it's parts.

I was thinking Taillight trim, door chrome, gauge bezels, faded mirrors, engine compartment items, front grill? fuel tank? and there's still plenty left over to make a profit.

If I had a shop, I'd have everyone send me their items and a check and that would easily pay for itself.
