five&dime Posted September 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2009 (edited) I don't have an S30 b/c my dad has 4 of them (Diseazd) But I have a 1972 510 and a 1992 BMW E34 525. Both of which have extensive work done. I do plan to get an S30 some day in the near future but I want to do some sort of modern motor swap when that time comes. The 72 510 has a Rebello Frankenstein 2.3 L20. 14 light weight panasports, Nissan comp header, Crane ignition, Twin Mikuni 44's, Roadster 5 speed, Ermish coilovers and F&R sways. It's really fun to drive and sounds insane When I got the car the wiring was all hacked, It had a euro M3 style mirror, BRE stripes, a 240z hood section molded into the 510 hood, no carpet and the engine bay looked awful. The car was straight but the PO had done a poor job at keeping it clean and tasteful. I pulled everything and repainted the bay. Then cleaned and painted the bottom end. The head was rebuilt and all aluminum was bead blasted and cleared. Carbs sent to Todd at Wolfcreek, I did the fuel system and the paint under the hood. PPG base/clear. Ordered the L series cad bolt kit from Eiji at Datsun Spirit. Painted the radiator support black and did the grill. Got a parts car with a perfect hood and a stock passenger seat. Painted the hood satin black. Wetsanded the exterior and buffed. Lowered the car another 1" The pillars and 1/4 window frames were black as well. I prefer the stock look so I painted those with PPG base clear as well. Then there is the BMW 1992 E34 525 with 175k. My dad and I pulled the motor and I dropped in a 1998 528 variable valve timing 2.8L (over my old non variable valve timing 2.5L) Before that we re-built the whole motor. New BMW rings, bearings, gaskets etc. I installed M3 cams and the larger OBDI intake manifold. The exterior has 54o brake ducts, M5 sideskirts, Euro front and rear lights and trim, vogtland springs with koni shocks, AC Schnitzer wheels. I also retro fitted Acura TSX projecters and HID's for a killer headlight system. The interior has 95 door panels in which I removed the wood trim, sanded it, painted it in PPG black base/clear with wetsand and buff. Black suede headliner, A,B & C pillars. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2477570002/" title="IMG_8578 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3203/2477570002_5feb7cbf4f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8578" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2502920004/" title="IMG_8777 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2398/2502920004_bb6eda2886_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8777" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2521597460/" title="IMG_8871 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3103/2521597460_35b609cc09_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8871" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2510196598/" title="IMG_8793 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2098/2510196598_d259e95eee_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8793" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2474007685/" title="IMG_8570 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2111/2474007685_619688d182_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8570" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3430742206/" title="IMG_0004 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3597/3430742206_a3fe5d6cc5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0004" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3448422649/" title="IMG_0368 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3448422649_e128f040ba_b.jpg" width="1024" height="670" alt="IMG_0368" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3570953347/" title="IMG_1980 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3642/3570953347_5fa8ee453a_b.jpg" width="1024" height="684" alt="IMG_1980" /></a> Edited September 5, 2009 by five&dime

motorman7 Posted September 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2009 Love the 510! When I met my wife, she was driving a tan 510 and I had a 1600 roadster. Was surprised to see that we had the same engine in the cars. So obviously, it was love at first site....my wife I mean, not the car
Rich1 Posted September 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 5, 2009 Your photography continues to amaze. It was your photos of your dad's lime-green 72 and your great looking 510 that initially drew me to this internet club.Keep the pictures coming! What color orange is that 510??? =Enigma= Posted September 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 5, 2009 Man I really love the hybrid 510/240Z hood. Very unique. Why did you ditch it?
five&dime Posted September 5, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 5, 2009 (edited) The hood just didn't look right to me. It was well done however. I sold it on eBay for around $350 iirc. The orange is Ford Spice Orange. I had the local paint place take a UV reading when I decided to paint the engine bay and pillars, window frames. Luckily I got a car that was originally done well and hardly any rust. It just needed to pretty much be dissasembled and then reassembled the correct way. I still need to have a nicer custom trans mount made, LSD diff and maybe C/V's in the future. The #1 or 2 lobe on the cam is just starting to wear so once the first snow hits I won't drive her anymore and will put in a new cam, rockers, timing chain, starter and the engine bay will be all done and all new Recently installed a new Nissan IR alt. Here is the link to the entire build process with photography. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/sets/72157622252247780/ Here are before and afters of the engine bay <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2458404208/" title="P4120151 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2339/2458404208_fb24d12611_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P4120151" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3448422649/" title="IMG_0368 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3448422649_e128f040ba_b.jpg" width="1024" height="670" alt="IMG_0368" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2457573635/" title="P4120144 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3017/2457573635_96608d1a33_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P4120144" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3888758820/" title="IMG_4476 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3423/3888758820_55ba7b4732_b.jpg" width="1024" height="684" alt="IMG_4476" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2522166925/" title="IMG_8898 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3192/2522166925_3a054cd735_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8898" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3497116833/" title="IMG_1427 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3649/3497116833_bcd2441411_b.jpg" width="1024" height="661" alt="IMG_1427" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3732790425/" title="IMG_3397 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2527/3732790425_b8666436b5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="684" alt="IMG_3397" /></a> Edited September 5, 2009 by five&dime
Kellhammer Posted October 2, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2009 Five That 510 is outstanding! Probably the nicest 510 right behind Tod Kaneko's I kick myself, because I sold my 72 when I was a poor college student to help fund my other car obsessions. I spent some time looking thru your Flicker pics. Wow! Love the lime and white Z's Then on top of all that, the photos are excellent.
five&dime Posted October 19, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted October 19, 2011 Wanted to update on my BMW project since I have done so much. Early this year I did a custom turbo setup and added 6 piston Wilwoods up front with E38 750il rotors. Currently making 343 RWHP but hoping to get it to 375-400 at the wheels. Now making 325 ft lbs of torque at 3300 RPM's She is a beast.
