Mike B Posted September 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2009 What should the small radiator decal in front of the upper radiator hose look like on a US 1970 240z? Banzai Motorworks has two reproductions, one supposedly for 1970-74 and one for 1975-83 (see the first picture below). I bought a couple of the 1970-74 Banzai reproductions (part #DE-10), but they don't look like the original on my 5/72 car (see picture #2). I also checked the 11/69 FSM (picture #3), and it has a decal that looks more like the Banzai DE10, although this radiator doesn't have a fan shroud either, so maybe its different than what made it to production? motorman7 Posted September 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2009 The first picture is correct. If you look at my 'refresh' thread, one of the early pictures shows that decal. It is original on my 3/70 build. I think I have some better pics at home. Had to make sure I mounted the new one from Banzai correctly. Does anyone have pictures of an original decal from their car?-MikeMike, I believe that the correct decal for a US 1970 240z would be the football shaped decal shown in your first attachment. I talked to Mike at Banzai about the install of this decal, and he said that it should be placed so as to be read from a position standing in front of the radiator looking to the back of the car (just the opposite of the antifreeze and pain color code decal placements). I was curious if that might be some kind of date code. I notice that mine says "2 E" on it, and since my car is a 5/72 production date I wonder if the 2 is for 1972 and the E is for May? If anyone has a decal similar to mine or an original on a 72 or 73 car I would be interested in seeing it. I am pretty sure the one on my car is original, since the car only had 37,000 miles when I got it and all of the other decals are original. My label is faded, but it is oriented as you noted, bottom of the lettering towards the front of the car, or upside-down when looked at from under the hood.More important, the two characters do appear to be a date code. My car is 7/71 build, the label says "1 G" on it, which conforms to 1971 July. So the sticker I put on my re-cored radiator, 3/70 build, should read '0 C' not '0 L'.:disappoin . Will have to see what I can do to fix that.
