e12-80 sorry but I have to ask

Ok im going back to taking out the MSD and going back to e12-80 but I forgot how and here is the thing. I have 2 black and white wires and need to know which one to to use and which one hooks up?

I tried finding the solution but with no luck I can't find it.. I have a 73 W/ 280zx distributor and yes the tack work before with that set up..

so i tried every wire examples i got and its stillnot working. I tried 2 different

e12-80 chips and still nothing. Something is not right and I badly need help please. I also have 2 black and white wires and both have current going thru.

Any suggestions? I put back the MSD and everything works fine just no tach.

If anyone has an idea that would be great. I check the links for the set up but its just not working

The E12-80 (just like the Pertronix) only needs two wires. A switched power lead connected to the terminal on the module marked 'B', and a trigger wire to the negative terminal on the coil from the terminal on the module marked 'C'.

Generally, you can use the original lead wire that went to the points for the coil trigger wire, and then just run a new wire from the positive terminal of the coil to the 'B' terminal on the module. Done this way, you should have no problems with the tach as long as the tach is good and the original wiring to it is unmolested.

i understand that but for some reason my 280zx coil just doesnt work with the e12-80 ignition... I used 2 different kinds mine and my friends who I just took off the of his car that work and im still not getting a spark.

I put back his e12-80 and it works fine.. but when I put back the msd 6a it works fine.. I really dont know wahts going on

Perhaps something in here will help. This was a thread I started when converting my 73 to a 280ZX dizzy and MSD 6AL w/tach adapter. At some point I plan on eliminating the E12-80 based on Jon's recommendations.

Thanks for the info. if im going to run my MSD then I'll just leave the e12-80 off. From what people tell me and from wire diagrams it is true that you dont need the e12-80 module. Just bypass it take it off and run direct. I been running it like that for a year now and nothing wrong has happened.

Question though. I been reading that your supposed to use the 8920 tach adapter but I see taht your using the 8910.. Hows it working for you? Its good to know that the info you gave me is some really good advice and I really appreciate it

I've got a stock(ish) set up on mine. Well the ignition is stock. Just added a MSD 6AL mounted on a plate so I can mount the 6AL on the fender well without drilling holes. I used a 5.5 ohm power resistor so that the current triggered Tach we have works. Seems to be OK until about 5K RPM - its possible its not drawing enough current. A 4 ohm power resistor would probably fix the problem by drawing more current at higher RPM or maybe I could build a constant current source.... Seems to be working great but I don't think my stock coil likes getting hammered with 450V instead of the stock 12V. I picked up a MSD Blaster SS coil. I can easily go back to the stock system if there are any issues.

The 8910 tach adapter seems to work fine if you're using the white wire to trigger the MSD rather than the violet and green magnetic trigger wires. I haven't tried the latter yet. Since I still have the E12-80 in place as the acting ignition module, I'm using the white wire. Once removed, I may have to go with the 8920, but for now the tach works just fine.
