Posted September 23, 200915 yr comment_295533 I am going on assumption here, and i would like someone else's input if i am correct. I have been getting alot of oil leakage at the intersection of my tranny and engine. It seems to be affected by the rpm. Would this be correct to assume rear main seal?I just rebuilt the engine with all the seals new, what did i do wrong that could have caused this, I am considering pulling the engine but don't want to of course. If thats what has to be done then fine. Not happy right now. :mad:Frankie Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33299-rear-main-seal-leak/ Share on other sites
September 23, 200915 yr comment_295543 It's probably your rear main seal. You can pull the transmission (easier than pulling the engine) IMO......pull the clutch housing, then the flywheel. Pull the seal out with a seal remover or long screwdriver. When installing the seal, grease the lips well before installing. September 23, 200915 yr Author comment_295550 Yeah i was considering it that way, lining that stuff up when dropping it in is always a pain. Now when you say grease it, is there any specific type of grease i should use. I greased it last time with just regular oil and I swear i put the lips toward the engine. Trying to make sure i don't do it wrong the 2nd time. :stupid:ThanksFrankie Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33299-rear-main-seal-leak/#findComment-295550 Share on other sites
September 23, 200915 yr comment_295551 Slighly twist the seal as you install it........don't seat it quite flush as many cranks with a lot of miles may actually have a groove worn in it from the previous seal. You want it to seat on a different spot than the old seal. Heavy oil or grease will work. September 25, 200915 yr Author comment_295700 Done, very easy to get the seal out after i took the cap off. Thanks for the help, i think if it leaks again i rather drive it off a cliff then do all that again.Frankie Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33299-rear-main-seal-leak/#findComment-295700 Share on other sites
