J Shara Posted September 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2009 Does anyone have any tips on how to effectivley get all, or most of the road grime, grease and dirt from out between all the nooks and crannies in the fan clutch, i tried scraping, and a nylon bristle brush, and wd- 40, i just cant seem to get it out and make it clean. This was it before i even started cleaning it
sblake01 Posted September 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) I have an 2.5 liter untrasonic cleaner that I bought from Harbor Frieght that works great for stuff like that. It was something like 40 bucks when I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago. Edited September 24, 2009 by sblake01
zbane Posted September 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 24, 2009 When I cleaned mine (about as bad as yours) I used Simple Green (not diluted) and Dawn dish soap with a small stiff plastic brush.
sblake01 Posted September 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2009 I just put them in the cleaner, let it run for a few minutes, hit them with the air gun and they look like this:
DeesZ Posted September 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 24, 2009 Media blasting will give you pleasing results as well. See the attached picture. I used glass beads on this one with an overcoat of high-temp clear.
EScanlon Posted September 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 24, 2009 Either Brake Cleaner, or Engine Degreaser... plenty of patience and a good stiff long bristled brush. Soak the piece, walk away for a while, come back and re-apply.It will take a couple of times, then rinse clean and to get the last bits out, use Stephen's Cleaner.FWIWE
260zCaliCar Posted September 24, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2009 I soaked mine in degreaser for awhile, then took it over to one of those DIY car washes and hit it with a pressure washer. Looked perfect when I was done. Mine was so dirty, I was seriously considering just buying a new one. You can kind of see it in the attached picture.
