November 23, 200915 yr comment_301111 Nope. I must program in the call letters myself. You will see both the frequency (ex. 98.5) and call letters if you do, or just the frequency if you don't. November 23, 200915 yr comment_301118 Must be a fairly old one. Mine shows the call letters automatically on stations that have that system which is most of them now, at least out here. November 23, 200915 yr comment_301126 My receiver is only about a year old. When I was researching the receivers, only the high-end ones had stuff like call letter display, song names, and such. I have seen this since a few years ago on cars like Land Rover (luxury models,) Cadillacs & Lincolns (with the premium sound system,) and a couple luxury Asian models. November 23, 200915 yr comment_301140 My Clarion is a 2005 model and you can program like 48(?) characters for the scrolling message. This only shows when you haven't screwed with any of the other buttons in a minute or two. The message actually reads "NATE'S 1972 DATSUN 240Z".The deal where the radio gives the call signs is called the Radio Data System or RDS. My '02 Pathfinder w/ Bose had RDS and it would state music or station genre like rock / news / talk, it also could give artist and song title, and on a trip in the DC area it actually gave me traffic info... pretty cool really. November 23, 200915 yr comment_301143 What is the feature called, that you are referring to? Perhaps I can contact the manufacturer to see if you can replace the 'Hello' message with Datsun or something? If the radio is idle, it will display the radio frequency, or CD or AUX, the MP3 tag, or whatever, but there has never been anything like we saw earlier in this thread.thxZ. Clarion refers to it as a Screen Saver. You could open up the owners manual or download the owners manual from the mfr website.Either way we've totally hi jacked the thread so I'm dipping out. November 24, 200915 yr comment_301254 Thanks! FWIW, I would like to see your door panel setup. I am not planning on cutting anything, I just can't bring myself to do it. Besides, these cars were not fine acustical masterpieces(except for the exhaust!). I am thinking that I will use the original speaker mounts behind the seats but use REAL NICE speakers and a decent Head Unit.Andrew Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33308-replacing-stereo-for-78-280z/?&page=3#findComment-301254 Share on other sites
