Double @ Infineon

Got back recently from an SCCA double at Infineon. I drove like a turd to include a huge spin entering turn 10 without hitting anything. Still fought back for a second. The car that won, a BMW 325, got protested prior to the next race. Rumor has it(from very reliable sources) that he has a 3+ liter engine in there amongst other stuff. Any way, he refused the tear down and left the track, taking with him a 6 month suspension and $250 fine. Kinda puts a hmmmm on all the wins and track records he's been earning lately. My wife told me to knock off the spins and to take it easy for the next race. :rolleyes: Of course I did and got a solid if uninspired win behind an ITA Miata driven by former national champion Mark Hoover. Yea, I know, a Miata. But hey, my car is in one piece and I can now cruise the winter months doing improvements! Thanks to those of you who gave me direction and support.

Who's doing your refreshing? Rebello does mine. Not cheep but solid.

Dave built the motor for the car builder, Michael Scott when it was still on the left coast and not SEDIV. I am pretty certain he did the last freshening. Still have the machinist ok on the magnaflux on the crank and the journal diameter.

I am doing the freshening. I talked to Dave earlier this year about the car, he remembered it but discarded the build records several years ago. Only real work to do will be the valve springs/seats/guides if needed. I had a cooling problem in June and saw 280 oil temp.:ermm: Figured it was time after that. Rest of the engine looks REAL good considering how hard it has been driven.

Wow, 280 degrees, what caused that? Oh, on an interesting side note, Dave told me that my engine(that he built) made the highest power numbers that he's ever achieved on one of his ITS L24 builds........200.7 HP

Sounds good until you look at the second place finisher.........200.5

Thermostat hung I think. Pulled water pump and it "seemed" ok. Changed all the fluids and made through the weekend without any further incident. Of course the 20 minute black flag session for the Miata that deposited 8 qts of Mobil 1 in turn 1 didn't help. Finished 2nd and 3rd so not too bad. Didn't have ANYTHING for the 2 z's in front of me but we all left the "P" car behind. :)

Even on the same dyno that's got to be within the margin of error especially if the two different engines weren't run back to back. I've got to think that temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, fuel, etc. all will affect the numbers. Would two runs in a row with the same engine even be that close (0.2 HP)?

I suspect that what this really means is that Dave is really good and probably has built a bunch of engines with the same specs that consistently produce that kind of output. It's not like there's a guy at the other end where all the same work was done but the result was only 150HP.
