Evacuation... what to take?

So we are under a stage 1 evacuation alert due to a 6000 acre forest fire burning less than a mile from my home. This got me to thinking about how much Z stuff is enough. What I mean to say is how much of the spares should I get out.. extra carbs.. glass.. interior bits and the such. I have so much of this stuff and trully wonder how much of it is really worth having around. Maybe I will get rid of something so the next day I will need it for sure!:stupid: I wish I had all the answers... I guess for now I'll concentrate on the guns and dogs, get the Z to a friends house, pack clothes and pray for the best.

Does insurance cover damage from a forest fire?

I would at the very least take pictures and make an effort to document what what you have so is the worst happens you can justify your claims after the fact...

If you return from your evacuation and your parts are not still there, I suspect they will represent the least of your problems. Andrew made a really good suggestion... Photograph everything. If you're insured with one of the classic car companies, all your parts may be covered if you went that route. Homeowners insurance my help out also, in a fire loss, it's really difficult to put an exact value on "your material life"

Get your most valuable items (pictures, antiques, pets, and documents) and get out of there. I lived in Malibu for 13 years so I'm really familiar with evacuation, floods, fires, earthquakes, you name it, we used to get it. Well, I suppose we never had "famine" there.

Sorry to hear about this!

If you're just taking the Z to leave it at a friend's house, I would suggest packing it full of your most valuable parts. Whatever you can't fit in the Z, I reckon would be somewhat expendable. If some of them are oily or greasy, just lay down a tarp or some plastic in the trunk and load it up.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think car parts would be way down the list of things I'd be gathering up during an evacuation. I already have a photographic inventory of my garage and shed. Sure, I'd like to save everything I could but but there are many things in the house itself that would have a higher priority.
