Posted September 28, 200915 yr comment_295958 Hello guysDid a search on this but didn't find my exact problem. Yesterday afternoon I was replacing my alternator belt. While removing the carbon canister I happened to hit it against the fender wall and knocked off the little nipple that holds the vac line that goes to the distributor. I tried gluing it back on but it hasn't really worked.1. Does anyone know where I can get just the top piece. In the manual its called the diaphram cover.2. Someplace I've read that the Carbon Canister from a Geo could be used is this true?3. The carbon canister I have seems very odd as there is a large tube coming from the bottom. Is this normal? Thanks allJan P.SPlease don't advise me to remove it. I can't as it is an emissions requirement. September 29, 200915 yr comment_295977 Jan, many of Nissan's parts were VERY standard from model to model and year to year. I'm guessing the carbon canister might be one such part. If you can find one at a junk yard that's the same physical size and that will mount in the bracket, it should work pretty much the same. You might even get lucky and find the same snap lid doodad. September 30, 200915 yr comment_296059 You can drill it out to fit a short piece of 1/8 metal tubing and epoxy it in place. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33356-carbon-canister/#findComment-296059 Share on other sites
September 30, 200915 yr comment_296087 Would you be making reference to the "Nipples" on the top part of the carbon cannister...see picture attached... webdawg1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33356-carbon-canister/#findComment-296087 Share on other sites
September 30, 200915 yr Author comment_296089 Yes I referring to the very small one that goes to the dist vc. Broke it completely off. Glued it on but the glue isn't holding all that well. September 30, 200915 yr comment_296119 So what's with this large tube you mentioned coming out the bottom of the carbon canister..?? Have a picture by any chance..?? Should look approx like the picture attached...might be able to still get the cap from your local Nissian dealer...see if I can dig up a part number for you unless someone just happens to have it handy... webdawg1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33356-carbon-canister/#findComment-296119 Share on other sites
September 30, 200915 yr comment_296120 Found the part number for the cap...14964-F1700...appears to be a good number still...(about $3.00-4.00 bucks) Would check with your local Nissian dealer and see what you can turn up...you would be amazed at what you can still get from your local dealer when you walk in with a part number in hand...webdawg1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33356-carbon-canister/#findComment-296120 Share on other sites
September 30, 200915 yr Author comment_296122 Here is a pic of the carbon canister I have. It looks nothing on the bottom like you showed webdawg1. The first two pictures show the actual canister and the last is the part I broke. What are the dangers of driving with the dist vac line unplugged as the gluing job didn't work. I'm thinking that this isn't the right canister for this car. It would explain the fuel smell when driving. Are carbon canisters in the Z's interchangeable with ZX or anything else?
