I think the rear end is a bit too short for a bumblebee stripe. That's more for long areas of the body. If you want to experiment with bumblebee stripes, you might do something like with the old Camaros, with a stripe across the front end. Like this...

I can't picture how it would work with the headlight recesses. Might be interesting.

I've seen some 80's styled, VERY wide pen striping sets at the auto parts stores -- with the widest stripe maybe 2" wide. You might experiment with some of that to see how you like the concept. Alternatively, you could prototype bumblebee stripes with 2" painter's masking tape (in blue, but you could paint it some other color). No need doing anything permanent until you have some idea whether you like it -- and get approving thumbs-ups from your friends.

This thread piqued my curiosity so I did a quick and dirty painters tape Super Bee stripe. I kinda like it. I think you could make it work. Getting the angle, width, and placement right will make or break it I think. I was shooting for the same angle as the trailing edge of the door. Maybe a Z logo instead of Super Bee, but that might be too much.

I have to say that when back when I owned my 72z back in the early 80's I was always a $ short of putting stripes on my car like the track Z shown above . Now that I am very close to laying down some paint on my 71 I will seriously consider striping this one, as it seems to set these cars apart from all the single paint schemes that I see here in the Vancouver area . I really like the look and the stance that the track car has and I believe that the stripes are the major contributing factor .

As Idahokidd says every body has a opinion so it it what suits you that counts .

I think your experiment was worthy of note. I like it as well, and don't think a "Z" like the one in the center of the forum's logo would look out of place.

You hit the concept of the stripes right on the head. Done properly it will set your car off from the rest. Not saying the others don't look good, they do, but those extra "lines" can be an added highlight... or if done improperly, garish additions.

Stripes can either highlight, accent, or soften body lines/panels.

Ever looked at the stripes on a Black Pearl? How about a ZZZapp? Better yet, look at the whole paint scheme on an Anniversary Edition.

Back in the 70's some folks blacked out the lower portion of the rocker panels... to make the car appear lower. Some tried the Torino Stripe package famous from Starsky and Hutch. Others accented the "nose" bulge on the hood, some with subtle pinstripes others by completely painting it in a different shade/color from the rest of the car.

ALL of those techniques were to make the car .... unique... to it's owner.

While there are examples of "EXCELLENT", there are also examples of "WTF?". Not everybody has the artistic "eye" to execute it properly... that's why it stands out... and also why it can be disastrous.

You need to be able to "step back" and examine your project critically... while keeping your vision focused.

The stripe looks great! That's what i had in mind. As far as the Z logo... try putting a small z in the middle of the bold stripe.....

This may sound odd coming from a guy who is dedicated to period-correct looks on his own Z, but I think it could work. Especially on a bumper-less Z with the sidemarkers and bumper depression shaved.

Sure' date=' all of Bob Sharp's Z race cars had them! (See Z Car Club of Rochester ([url']www.ZCCR.net, go to photo gallery,go to Album of Vintage Z Race Cars).) And if I recall, the 510's and 610's did too. Just that the stripes didn't stand out as much as if they had been alone, due to all the rest of the trick paint those cars sported!!!
