hello gang, got a sad update :(

It's been quiet a while since I've been able to get on the old computer. Never a shortage of things to do. ;)

Unfortunately I'm going to have to part with my beautiful blue baby guys. It makes me so sick to have to do it and it was something I never planned on doing but this tough economy is just leaving me with no choice. Things are going to be getting slower during the winter months in my line of work (RV Tech.) and they are talking about how we might have to start leaving a hr. early everyday plus a 2 week shut down around the holidays. It all really adds up and makes it a little tough to hang onto my Z hobby plus paying the storage garage every month is a pain as well.

Tough thing I'm running into is I have crappy winter up here in Minnesota and November is around the corner so I got her tucked away now. All I got left to do is pull the battery for winter. What are your guy's thoughts? Would it be better to put it up for sale early next spring?

Thanks again all. One thing is for sure when I do this, I will miss this Z BIG time when it goes:(

I don't know what to tell you but I'm in the market for a 280z that is in great condition. I don't know anything about your car but I would be interested in learning more. Please contact me if you could to let me know more info about the car.

Thanks,

C

FAIW, I listed my '66 Mustang very recently on Craig's List and got my (firm) asking price of $1000 under the appraised value ($1000 less, per the advice of the appraiser). There was no bickering. He was happy to get it. Perhaps it's something to love and tinker with during the winter, in anticipation of the spring. Anyway, it's free to list, and I've racked up three very good auto sales so far on Craig's List. People ARE buying now. I would just make it clear that you're not going to let anyone test drive the car in the snow/salt.

Though for different reasons, about 5 months ago, I parted with my 280Z which I had owned for 12 years. You're going to miss it. I know that because I definately miss mine. I also was able to easily get my asking price. It does appear that people are buying now as Sarah says. A friend recently sold his El Camino and my cousin recently sold his Camaro both for their asking price.

17 years ago when I left Minnesota I would have said that Fall is a terrible time to sell and suicide as far as the potential price you could get is concerned. People are thinking about battening down the hatches and getting ready for winter to blow in. Now, we have the internet and sites like this. There are several ways of listing it and as long as you stay firm on your price you may well get what you want or need from it.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. Your right Stephen about missing it once it's gone. It's going to feel like someone ripped the heart out of my chest when I see it go for good but for right now, I just need to free up some extra cash right now for more inportant things during this tough economic time. I will ALWAYS have a love and pasion for the classic Z Car and I'm hoping to be able to get another one later in my life when the timing is better and the economy is better.

ZCarLife, interesting Avatar :eek::eek: :D

I haven't decided when exactly I'm going to list it for sale but I can send you some info and pics.

Sorry about the bad news. Why don't you list it on Craigslist and see what kind of responses you get. Don't sell it for less than you want. If it doesn't sell, then hopefully you can wait. It only sells if you accept the offer. You will at least learn something in the process. Best of luck. Do know that there is always another car. Who knows, maybe you sell your Z under the condition that, if the buyer decides to sell it in the future, that he gives you first right of refusal.
