You guys might have an opinion about this one.

I can control things like image size in the forums. Right now, the max size is 640x480 because larger images ruin the forum display.

If I disabled the image views by default, the image attachments will appear as "attachments" in the message and a user must click on the attachment to see the image.

If I did this, I could increase the default image size. What do you think?

(this would be helpful for guys like Zvoiture who upload wallpaper)

Mike, I can see where increasing the image size would be very helpful, like when trying to view something close up and image size restricts clarity.

But I also like being able to quickly glance at most of the pics being posted right in the message. And not having to go that extra "click" to view the image.

Call me lazy, but I usually and just quickly running through posts when I'm in here. Making the most of my internet time, I guess...

Mike,. I agree with Kmack, i like the small, being able to just view by clicking on the image again is nice if you want to see it larger... ps. ci can't remeber my password, can you e-mail so that i may post my ride in the gallery? Thanks, Zlishous

You could also think of it this way....

Disabling the default view *ON* for images in posts takes you longer to read a thread because you are forced for each image to load. This is especially bad when people post many pictures to one thread. If it's *OFF* you could quickly browse through the messages and then only view the pictures you want to see.

I think the option of having the photo as an attachment would be nice. Some of the pics are so good that being able to view a full page photo is the only way to give the subject the credit it is due.

I agree that it does spoil the display at times, but as far as cutting all the pics to the smaller size might not be the best solution.

I'm wondering if we could have a separate forum for anyone who wants to post a larger size picture would be an easier solution. While keeping the size limitation for the rest of the forums for display continuity and loading times?

personally I think teh way it should work is as follows:

If the image size is smaller than 640x480 the image is displayed. If the image size is larger than 640x480 the image is not displayed. Instead, a link to the full-size image is displayed.

Not sure if there is a preset setting for this, but I assure you it IS the best setup !!!! ROFL :tapemouth

I like your idea as well. But, unfortunately this would require some custom programming. The quick and easy way to do this is with a link. I'm going to enable it and you guys can tell me what you think of it.

Of course you'll have to find a post with images so you can view them in this manner. Try the member rides forum.

Here's a link to an example:

http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4226

This link is great because it shows the image attachment in the forum. You can see how it now shows a LINK to the image attachment instead of the image itself (now that I changed the options).

You can also see an image below that (from Rick Hanson) that is actually a link from a different website.

Problem with the links from other websites (instead of a direct attachment) is they can become broken if someone changes the remote website. This sucks because most sites change in a few years.

I'm liking this idea more now because I had a chance to see the site from a regular dial-up modem. Talk about SLOW!! When a user opens a thread with a lot of attachments, it can take forever to download the thread. With this option, they can pick-n-choose the images they want to see.

I like it. I'm a dial-up user so whatever makes the page load quicker is good. But having said that, i dont mind waiting for pictures to load.

Mike, howabout making the picture link load in a new browser, window as it does, but without the toobars. and possibly sized to match the picture size if possible.
