My hose is too long !!!

My COOLANT hose that is ... ;)

The hose shown in the pic attached (thanks ken for the pic!!) is too long on my car - it has a kink in it so I guess not as much coolant is getting through as there is supposed to.

I figure I can just cut a bit off the end, but I'm not sure if when I take the hose off whether coolant will spray everywhere!

I undid the clamp a little bit and coolant sorta dripped/spurted out - the engine was cold btw.

Can I take the hose off without having to flush all the coolant out ?

That forward hose should come good with a minimal of trimming. It appears that at some time in the past someone has replaced your lower thermostat housing with the wrong configuration probably 180B or 240K. What I did for this problem on my car was to source a replacement lower housing. The best way to deal with the coolant loss is probably to drain down below the level of the hose into a bucket using the radiator drain **** on the lower left of your radiator. put it all back in when you have completed your repair. to the repair that line pre heats your Hitachi carbs and other than warm up time you can live with this problem in the short term as the rear hose will heat the water slowly just with no flow.

Why worry?The coolant flows thru that intake as a heater for the intake.Unless your driving in severe cold you don't need it.Also on normal or hot days your still ADDING heat to the intake.Since Z's are bad about vapor lock in hot weather anyway why add to the situation?Your car looks great!!!It may be the camera angle but,It appears the hose to trim is your intake to brake booster.It appears just tall enough to rub the underside of your hood when closed. sjcurtis is correct in that the radiator level should be lowered to a point below the thermostat housing. Even after doing this you will still have some coolent exit from the thermostat housing, so have a rag or paper towels to catch the amount that drains from the thermostat. Yesterday I had to replace the sensor sending unit in the front of the thermostat housing and had to do the same procedure. After 32 years my sensor had shorted and it was un-nerving to drive with the coolent temperature guage reading +250 degrees F. Sending sensor to Nissan in order that they can perform a failure analysis to determine defect cause!!
