g9m3c Posted November 5, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 5, 2009 Not trying to be rude here, but some of you guys must have weak engines if you can't run it under 2500 or 3000. My stock L26 with ZTherapy carbs chugs around at 1700-2000 no problem. Hills aren't even much of a challenge for it at those RPMs. I hardly ever downshift when cruising at those RPMs. Maybe you guys need a tune up or something? Dave I have to say Dave, I was a little taken a back at your comments regarding driving habits...until I looked at what you were driving. Yes, I must say, I would drive your motor much different than I drive mine. I posted our engines both below just for reference. I would most likely drive engine A as you explained and engine B as I explained. I guess it's just a matter of reference and personal preference. doradox Posted November 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 5, 2009 The Z's engine WAS built as a SPORTS CAR motor. Sports cars are typically, or almost always equipted with PERFORMANCE motors. I agree with Many of his rules. These cars don't have crap for power in the lower band (under 3000 RPM)JM2CW.DaveRuns on regular gas, non cross flow head, wide powerband well suited to the optional auto trans. Not exactly the mark of a purpose built performance engine. The only reason the Z is at all peppy is because of a good power to weight ratio. Relatively large engine in a small car. The L24 is just as happy at 2000 rpm as it is at 6000. It has plenty of power down low and even Granny could drive it.I certainly wouldn't call it a performance engine.
