Q #1: Pertonix, wasn't that the oil company from the 80's re-make of King King?

Q #2: If I put the Pertonix in my '70 Z, will it survive the EMP from a nuke? Some how I've allways taken pride in the fact that I will be driving away from armageddon in 2012.

I admit however that I didn't throw the points distributors away when I went to electronic ignition... I could always put one back on the car if I HAD to.

buy "NAPA Standard Brand" points. You will have street performance and reliability if you have a full original unless you are full of modifications and updates.

Mine is running fine but more frequent tuning if use as a daily driver. I will never go to electronic ignition. If points fails I can replace or adjust to go back home.

Stay and stall with an electronic set up and call the werker to go home

Me too - however it is to bad Mallory doesn't offer a true HEI cap and rotor for that. For that matter they should offer cap, rotor and plug wires... with matching coil...

I've got the best of both worlds, then. With the Pertronix in my stock distributor I've got the reduced maintenance and hotter spark, but I pack my points in the tool kit. I can change back to points and be up and running in case of a failure in about 15 minutes or less. Simple, clean and reversible.

Pertronix is great - IF the distributor in which you install it is in good shape. If the distributor shaft bushings are worn or the vacuum advance doesn't work, many of the advantages are gone.

Mark, hello. I'm running a 280ZX distributor with E 12-80 ICM and an MSD Blaster 2 coil. I switched to this setup for the very reasons Arne cited above - my stock 240 dizzy wasn't precise enough to fully exploit the pertronix.

As such, I have the following available, PM me if you're interested:

Pertronix Ignitor #1761 for Hitachi Distriburor with 6 Cyl Motor

Pertronix Flamethrower Coil #40511, Black 3.0 ohm for 4 & 6 cyl Motors Oil filled
