Putting things back together is usually reverse of taking apart, with the manifold's should i install both and finger tighten all nuts and then torque them ? Or install exhaust manifold and tighten studs except the 6 that siamese with the intake ? Also i removed the intake heat shield's to make it easier to get to the btm studs, i am guessing i should attach the heat shield's before installing intake ? Starting those bolts would be a pain with the intake installed.

install the heat sheild near last. I am not to that point yet, but it would just get in the way. Besides, its held on by very easy to reach bolts at the base of the carbs. I torqued all the header bolts that were independent of the intake before I put the intake on. Makes for less contorting my body later.

My '77 has fuel injection so those heat shield bolts are a little harder to get to but like you said they just get in the way. I have been trying to clean the years of muck out of the intake runners and throttle body, i have gone thru 4 cans of cleaner. Also i have only one day a week i can work on the car, and it is going to rain this weekend so looks like another week of sitting :disappoin

hm since your intake is an FI manifold I'm not sure the best way to do it. With my gasket and studs ready, I placed my header and intake on the studs. I left my balance tube snug but not tight so it would allow the manifold halves to tighten flat against the head.

I started all the nuts/washers and got them all snug. I torqued everything in stages so I was certain the torque was even. I did not install my heat shield and carbs until I finished torquing the manifold and header.

If your heat shield is anything like mine, it blocks most of your access to the exhaust studs.

Well got her back together, waiting an MSA to send me the pcv hose and egr tube, they sure like them $$$ so i have not started her up, thought it best to wait until all is buttoned up.
