Posted November 20, 200915 yr comment_300874 I ordered the full carpet kit and should be ready to install them sometime next week. The question that I have is, are there some type of board/cover over the trunk like the newer day cars?If so, what would you call that and where may I possibly go to find this part before I install the trunk carpet? November 20, 200915 yr comment_300876 It depends on the car & year. On my 280Z, there is a fibreboard lid over the spare tire area with hinges, and the carpet covers the entire rear deck area. It's the same type of csrpet that the front area has (loop pile.) November 20, 200915 yr comment_300886 On the '75 there's a circular (dish shaped) hardboard cover over the spare. Starting in '77 they put in a larger tank, made the spare tire depression shallower, used a space saver spare that didn't save space, and raised the hatch floor with a hardboard false floor. However, I think your carpet would have simply laid on the (metal) hatch floor, with the exception of the hardboard covering the tire. November 20, 200915 yr Author comment_300888 Now that you mentioned it, there is a circular board the previous owner shipped with the car. I didn't know what it was. So, I guess the circular board is the only thing that covers the spare tire and the carpet will just go over the metal trunk area. Thanks for your help.On the '75 there's a circular (dish shaped) hardboard cover over the spare. November 24, 200915 yr comment_301250 The spare tire is kind of useless since you need to pump it up before use in the middle of nowhere:bulb:Im going to make a compartment out of the well a door that hinges up to reveal battery relocation or something :paranoid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/33889-trunk-carpet-help/#findComment-301250 Share on other sites

Your relocated battery won't do you any good at that point if what you actually need is a spare tire......
