zman112233 Posted November 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) Here's the deal... I'm ready to sell my orange 240Z because I need the money. I bought this 240Z about two years ago. It ran great and I love the car but I have to let go of it now. Here is the current status: Like all these 240Z's the clock in the dash didn't work. I bought a new clock and took some of the dash out to install it. The weather got extremely cold so thought I'd pick it up when the weather got warmer. It sat for about 6 months and when I came to start it it wouldn't start. Turns out I needed a new fuel pump. Replaced that and the car started perfectly. The problem is when I go to put it in gear it won't shift in to first. My dad said it's probably just the clutch plates stuck together from sitting and it needs to be rocked to free them. Either way I need the money and don't have time to fool with it. Here's the question: What should I ask as a selling price? It was repainted in 2006 I think and other than some of the dash taken out it's all around pretty decent. I'm not saying it's a perfect car, but it not a clunker either. It if had a couple of solid hours of TLC I think it would be great. I have attached an image of it below. I paid $3,000 for it and I've put a new battery, alt, fuel pump, clock, etc. What should I price it at? lonetreesteve Posted November 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2009 I highly recommend that you get it running first before you try to sell it. You will end up with a lot more money that way.
WingZr0 Posted November 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2009 For a decent running Z such as yours described i say about $3,000. But with the upgrades you say it could go 3 to 4 or $5,000 especially on Ebay.
DeesZ Posted November 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2009 Location makes a difference, too.... You'll get more in the east than on the west in USA. Where is Z-Land?Personally, I would spend those several hours of TLC that you suggest to maximize the sale price. One that 'runs/drives' will command a higher price than one that 'should run/drive'. Is your dash in pieces? How's the rust (how are the frame rails, floors, doglegs, spare tire well, etc)? All of this little stuff adds up one way or the other. CoastGuardZ Posted November 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2009 I think it would be worth the extra money you will make to get the car to running/driving condition first. Look at this way... If you paid $3k and it ran then, what would you have paid for a non running car. That being said, running and rust free to the naked eye and passes the "pull the carpet back" test then you could fetch $5k-ish here on the east coast. I can't stop for gas without 1 or 2 people coming up to me and telling me they haven't seen a 240 in ages. Sorry to hear that you are parting with your Z. Best of Luck.
