I am 21, and the Z is my third car.. well i was 20 when i bought it :-p

1. 1990 Dodge Colt : "The POS" I got it for $300 from a family friend. It lasted me about 6 months till one of the strut towers rusted out and jammed between the wheel and wheel well. It was a POS but i loved it just the same, it was my first car.

2. 1990 Acura integra: "Tiggr" I got this one after the colt. all mods, by my opinion, were tastefully done by PO. Sound system, wheels, genie exhaust. It was dubbed Tiggr by my mom after the winnie the pooh character. I hated the name at the time but it grew on. Car was stolen from a movie theater parking lot.

3. 1972 Datsun 240z :No official name yet, although i am thinking "Zada" after my little cousin.

Own a mazda rx-7 for 5 1/2 years named B.B. aka Black Betty for obvious reasons. And the toyota solara I drive is just the solara.

But my Z, I decided on Azalie the character with the name goes from a beautiful girl to a dragon, hope my Z can live up to the name.

My car was named the in the first block of the test drive. The salesman had just had it out and said it was quick. (at 14 a Z had impressed me) Pulling out of the lot, the light had just turned green and no traffic, got it straight and took it to the floor, and it took off, it pulled hard, and sounded better! Hit second with a good sized chirp, then said the first word that came to mind, "BONZI", (sp) it HAD to have a Z in it. By the time I hit third, it was SOLD!

Got personal plates in 1980 with "its" name, (neither he or she), that is on the front now.

I bought my car new in September 1972 and immediately named her Brandy - after the song of the same name (Brandy - You're a Fine Girl) by the Looking Glass. It was the number one hit for only one week on the Billboard chart of August 26, 1972, about 2 weeks before I bought the car, so the tune was fresh on my mind. I still have a brass plaque on the console that says "Brandy - 13 September 1972." This is the second plaque that I installed three years ago - the original plaque from 1972 finally got too scratched up after 34 years of service...

That Colt..Dodge? Here its Mitsubishi..

Yea, it was just re-badged. It actually had a few makes stamped in various places. There were Mitsubishi stamps on the backs of the speaker magnets. There were Plymouth stamps behind some of the interior plastics and a big Dodge badge on the back of the car.

People call mine the 'green beastie' because of the colour, and it can be a handful, like on the autocross course. I called it the Zoomer for the sound it makes on some rural highway, at 80 or 90 mph. But it's just plain fun when cruising, when you see people do the double-take, and give you the thumbs up.

Just be mindful of the fact there are still some WWII vets out there that lost friends in Kamikaze attacks... I mentioned getting a personalized license plate that read KAMAKAZ on it at a car show held at a VFW post and I got an ear full from some old sailors...

Come on Coastie Brother you should know better than to listen to any Navy guys!!!!

That Colt..Dodge? Here its Mitsubishi..

That whole game started back in the 70's. The BIG 3 (Chrysler, Ford and Chevy) were losing money to the Japanese and their Hi MPG imports. So to offset their losses, they each invested into different foreign car companies.

Ford invested in Mazda (Ford Courier = Mazda B2000)

Chevy Invested in Isuzu (Chevy Luv = Isuzu Pup )

Chrysler/Dodge invested in Mitsubishi (Dodge Stealth = Mitsubishi 3000GT)

So with investments in foreign cars, the Big 3 stopped losing money due to the Gasoline crunch of the 70's. Mitsubishi has slowly bought back most of their company from Chrysler as Chrysler picked up sales and loss interest in rebadging foreign auto's.

Off the top of my head, here's where it stands........

Daimler/Chrysler owns:

-AMC (brand discontinued)

-Chrysler

-Dodge

-Eagle (brand discontinued)

-Hyundai (Daimler/Chrysler only owns 10%)

-Jeep

-Maybach

-Mercedes-Benz

-Mitsubishi (Daimler/Chrysler owns 37%)

-Plymouth (brand discontinued)

-Smart

Ford owns:

-Aston Martin

-Ford

-Jaguar

-Land Rover (bought from BMW)

-Lincoln

-Mazda (Ford owns 33% of Mazda)

-Mercury

-Volvo cars

General Motors owns:

-Buick

-Cadillac

-Chevrolet

-Daewoo (GM owns 44%)

-Fiat (GM owns ~20%)

-Fuji Heavy Industries (GM owns ~20%)

-GMC

-Holden

-Hummer

-Isuzu (GM only owns a percentage)

-Oldsmobile (brand discontinued)

-Opel

-Pontiac

-Saab

-Saturn

-Subaru (GM owns 20%)

-Suzuki (GM only owns a small percentage)

-Vauxhall

Just a little FYI for your Monday Morning.

Back to the subject at hand.
