Frankensteinz2 Posted November 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2009 Hey GuysHas anyone noticed that people in the new z's never seem to notice us older z's. Im mean even acknowledge us. Whats up with that? I can't count the number of times i have gone too waive at a new z only to feel like a dummy for not being noticed. I caught a girl in a 350z the other day and said hi. She thought i was a weirdo. Maybe the nostalgia only goes for us older Z's and is just lost on the newer generation z owners.Alright i had to get that out, its been bugging meLaterFrankie
Pomorza Posted November 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 26, 2009 I've actually got a number of newer Z's to acknowledge my 280z. It most likely has to do with age. All the people the have acknowledged me were older individuals, and most likely own or have owned z's in the past. I think a lot of it has to do with age. I use to drive a jeep and there is the jeep wave. (I can go into detail but it would take up to much space.) Anyhow only a few individuals knew and/or acknowledged the wave. Young people in my opinion (I'm 22 so I would have an idea I guess) just don't respect or know the history of the car they drive. All they care is that they have 250 hps under the hood and can blow my little Z out of the water. Ive met people that drive 350z's that didn't know what the history of the Z car was. They thought my car was some kit car I built on the side. (no joke).Jan
SportBikeMike Posted November 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 26, 2009 I agree with Jan. It has alot to do with age. I did have a guy in a 350Z wave at me in my 240Z the other day.....but this is rare. I think the majority of 350Z owners have no idea of the heritage of their car. Of course the whole Datsun/Nissan thing throws them off too.:stupid:
psdenno Posted November 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2009 I agree with those who mentioned that the owners of new Zs probably don't make the connection between Nissan and Datsun. Or, they're egocentric twits. I don't spend too much time worrying about it.Dennis
Zs-ondabrain Posted November 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2009 It's an Age and Interest thing. The older they are, the more likely they know what an Original Zcar is.It seems that too many people buy the New Z's for the Notariety and love of a new car, and it's cool to them. Not enough People, Now-a-days, stop to think about the "Actual History" of the car they are driving. Take for instance the Ford F-Series trucks. They've been around for over 5 decades. But the new crowd buys them cause it's a low price entry level truck with good reviews. And they likely never stop to think about it's History.I get about 3 responces out of 10 350/370Z's waved at. It's more of a simple "Peace" sign and I find it gets more attension than the "HI, I'M A PSYCO, WAVE BACK AT ME DAMNIT!!!" And at that point, they pick up their phone as to dial 911.... Some Peoples kids, go figure.Dave
Z CAR 77 Posted November 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2009 I think it's just a lack of age thing. The younger the 350Z/370Z driver is the less likely they even know what our funny little cars are. Add in the fact that "most" of the people driving 240z/260z/280z are "older" that their parents and it's not "cool" to wave at your parents and grandparents No matter I'm gonna keep waving at anything with a Z on it's badge (including Z-28's). SportBikeMike Posted November 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2009 The odd thing is the vast majority of complements I get for the 240Z are from teenagers or younger. They may not know what it is, but they like it!
cajunz Posted November 27, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 27, 2009 I agree with the age thing. I've got a '78 and the younger crowd doesn't even know what the car is most of the time. When I'm in the new 370Z, I rarely get a wave from the kids in the 350's. I get more love from the Subbie and Evo crowd. Go figure.
whamo Posted November 27, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 27, 2009 We drive a 350z and a 240z, many 350z drivers are ignorant of the heritage. However when we have the 240z its is amazing how many people , young and old, comment on the car. It seemes that all of the older people have a story to tell about a Z. The younger kids just think its a really cool car.
JimmyZ Posted November 27, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) I've waved at 300ZX owners and gotten the same puzzled look. You would THINK that they would at least get it!Kids from teens to early twenties think they are seeing some rare Ferrari or Porshe instead of the humble S30.I did have two nice acknowlegements from new Z owners. A 350Z was trailing me once and I looked up in the rearview to see BOTH passengers wave enthusiastically. (Cool) I waved back of course. We then proceeded to drive the twisty road the way Z's like to be driven. FunThe other time was a new 370Z owner. He was my age (40) and as I passed him I gave a thumbs up and a smile. He caught up and returned the gesture. He understood. It was nice to see some genuine generational Z comraderie.Once upon a time almost all motorcyclists did some kind of wave or acknowlegement to one another. Now they have their little cliques and it's more like 65% wave. Some people never get it. Edited November 27, 2009 by JimmyZ
bpilati Posted November 27, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 27, 2009 I remember when the 300ZX owners were a bit like that. That was one of the reasons for this website. Things have changed, but there were times.
Z train Posted November 27, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 27, 2009 [quote=Z CAR 77 No matter I'm gonna keep waving at anything with a Z on it's badge (including Z-28's). Why wave at a Camaro?
