Replacement parts ?

Recommended Posts

It seems everyone likes to say "coverer a million times" or "use the search engine", i thought this is what all web boards are designed for, but i have visited all those sites and have yet to find all the parts i need, some of those sites only have parts for 240z's. When you look for brackets, clamps, hoses, switches, valves, sensors, linkage, nuts, bolts, fuel lines. I guess from now on if i search and nothing comes up, i will not ask for help fearing i will be bashed by members, I will just have to figure it out myself.

If you don't already have it get the club parts CD. This contains scans of the original microfiche that was used in the Datsun/Nissan parts department to find parts. Once you have the proper part number it becomes much easier to find those obscure parts. Web sites like nissanparts.cc mentioned above can get anything that's still available through Nissan. If you already have parts numbers and are still running out of luck feel free to post requests here. Often it's possible to find a used part in better shape than the original you're trying to replace. The people with those cars that look like they did on the showroom floor simply put a lot of time and effort and money into tracking down parts.

A number of things you can get at local parts stores. Most belts, hoses and other "very often used" parts can be found at parts stores. But if you need specific parts the sites above are fairly good. What exactly are you looking for? It is indeed hard to find some uncommon parts even in the above sites but if you know the right people to talk to (such as members on this very site) parts can be found.

And please don't fear asking about anything. I'm one of those people, that no matter how often it has been discussed I will happily tell you where to find what your looking for. I don't like the whole "its been discussed millions of times" thing. Yes it has been asked millions of times and yes we've answered it hundreds of times but it won't hurt writing it down again. (or at least that's my point of view). I rather that you ask it then have to sit there for weeks trying to figure out what goes where and why something isn't working. Just ask.

Motorsport Auto, Black Dragon Automotive (formerly Victoria British), and Courtesy Nissan are the companies that I have been buying from for years for my 73-86 Z parts.

What specific parts are you wanting and not able to find, and for what year model of Z?

It seems everyone likes to say "coverer a million times" or "use the search engine", i thought this is what all web boards are designed for, ...... When you look for brackets, clamps, hoses, switches, valves, sensors, linkage, nuts, bolts, fuel lines. At the expense of scaring you away, allow me to say that I think you're being a little thin skinned on this one. The first two responses to your question listed 10 places to find "parts" that make Zs "look better than they did when they rolled out of the factory" - just as you asked.

Then you responded, "but i have visited all those sites and have yet to find all the parts i need". Perhaps, you should have been a little more specific about what parts you were looking for. That would have brought more specific answers from the generally friendly and helpful members of the forum.

There's a "learning curve" to posting "Help Me!" questions. Don't be shy or easily discouraged while mastering the skill. We all went through the same process. We'll help you. That said, what exactly do you need?

Dennis, point taken, Just placed an order for my club parts cd hope this will help. I have a 1977 280z, the one part i really need to replace is the throttle linkage from the firewall. The boot is torn off and all the nylon joints are all but gone, the whole thing flops around like a fat man on a cold toilet seat.

It seems everyone likes to say "coverer a million times" or "use the search engine", i thought this is what all web boards are designed for

They are designed for sharing information, but who likes to do a search and get hundreds of results for a single topic with the same information repeated over and over again in each post? You said you are impatient so this wouldn't serve you very well, would it?

I have visited all those sites and have yet to find all the parts i need, some of those sites only have parts for 240z's. When you look for brackets, clamps, hoses, switches, valves, sensors, linkage, nuts, bolts, fuel lines.

Perhaps if you had posted a question like; "I've looked at many sites and can't find the parts I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can find X?" would have provided us with better information to help you and get you closer to the parts you're looking for.

I guess from now on if i search and nothing comes up, i will not ask for help fearing i will be bashed by members, I will just have to figure it out myself.

Now you're just being a baby. Sorry if I'm being harsh but your initial response and this one are simply juvenile and way off base. You asked where we buy parts and I posted a list not knowing where you had already been since you neglected to share that info with us in your initial post. Good communicaiton skills will go a long way towards getting the help you need and maintaining a good standing on this and any message board. This board is actually very friendly which is why you received posts with links and recommendations. Posts like your second one in this thread will get you nowhere.

Just tell us what you need so we can point you in the right direction and spare us the drama.

Cheers ,

Ask and ye shall receive. Here's some links to replacement boots. The linkage may be more difficult to find new but eBay is a good source as are the recycling yards. There are two 77' 280Zs in my local yard where these parts could be obtained if I knew specifically what you were looking for and were inclined to help. I also recommend trying Ztherapy as a source for the linkage.

It might be helpful to create a signature that details the model and year of your car as well so we have a better idea what car your questions are related to.
