Front sway bar issues

Recommended Posts

I have a '72 240z and the previous owner upgraded the front sway bar to a 1" Motorsport model. I just replaced the poly bushings with Motorsport poly replacements but have noticed that they keep working their way out of the bushing retention clamps. Has anyone had similar issues or are there replacement clamps for the 1" bars? My car is garaged until I can figure this out so PLEASE HELP!!!! :-)

Sorry to have missed this question before.

If you are using the mounting clamps that may have come with the sway bar, are they a completely flat plate? I have seen these with some sway bars, and that could be causing the movement of the bushing. If you still have them, try the stock clamps and see if they help any, they have a groove in them and if I remember right, they have a bit of a flange along both sides....

Hope that helps, if you still have the stock ones that is...:ermm:

Maybe try tightening hose clamps around the sway bar -- one on each side of the bushings.

Or take a piece of 1/8" x 1" flat stock and bend it into a U shape. The ears will need to be short enough to not touch the sway bar and bolt it between the frame and the bushing perpendicular to the frame. The diagram below shows and end view without the bushing bracket:

If it slides out too, you may need to weld a tab on top of the U bracket to capture the frame rail.
