December 3, 200915 yr comment_302068 Bummer! I've been thinking of listing my white 77 but haven't really pulled the trigger just yet. It is a long ways from you but it is rust free and all stock. December 4, 200915 yr comment_302111 Bummer, cuz 5 grand was just what I was thinking too Seriously, there are a ton of Z's out there. NONE of them will replace yours, but you will find one that will win your heart. After hearing of the fellow that was in the wreck and got $600 for his and now $500 for yours, it is imperitive that we get an appraisal yearly to be able to prove value. Best of luck to you in the search Leonard Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34019-looking-for-z/#findComment-302111 Share on other sites
December 4, 200915 yr comment_302165 Spend the most money you have on the best southern or rust free car you can find. We have local guys who spent 10s of thousands restoring rusty cars. A 500 or so shipping bill is cheap compared to rust repair. JMHO, YMMV, cheers Richard. December 5, 200915 yr comment_302284 Do a search on this site for insurance threads. You'll find that if you just document what other vehicles of the same year / model are worth you should be able to prove your car was worth more than just $500.The low-ball offer is common for a first offer from the insurance company, if you ACCEPT it, then you are agreeing to their evaluation of it. Their evaluation is based on age and ASSUMED value. Do not just accept their offer, NEGOTIATE your settlement. PROVE the value of your car, or at least demonstrate that your car wasn't another rust-bucket old car that "purportedly ran". If you have pictures of your car and can document it's enhancements etc. you should be able to get a much better offer BEFORE you accept their offer.Remember, they are counting on your simple acceptance of their offer and thinking you haven't got a chance to prove otherwise. That is how they save money on paying out on claims.FWIWE Edited December 5, 200915 yr by EScanlon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34019-looking-for-z/#findComment-302284 Share on other sites

December 6, 200915 yr comment_302387 Does your Insurance Policy say that they will only pay Kelly Blue Book? Or does it say "actual cash value" or "ACV". If it says actual cash value take them to small claims court - you don't need a lawyer there - and chances are very good -that if you present cars of equal condition currently advertised for sale - at much higher prices - the Judge will award you far more than $500.00. Especially if you have current receipts for work done on the car.If it really pisses you off - take them to Court... you really don't have anything to lose..And to avoid Court they may offer significantly more right up front. You have to notify them and then go file the papers at the Small Claims Court..FWIW,Carl B.
