Assuming he still owns it, since it was reported as of 4/17/96... almost 14 years ago. How about HLS30-00346, owned by Anne Webster Adams? Do you know when she bought it? Wasn't she at the Dallas convention with it a couple of years ago? HLS30-00210 was sold on 5/11/70 and owned by its' original owner until a little over a year ago.

Bought my 73 June 21, 1977. College car until Sept, 1980. Sat in the garage with newly rebuilt engine and a half a paint job for 26 more years, March of 2006. Was painted in Nov 2007 and put back together and on the road by May of 2008. Like getting a new old car again. Welcome back my old friend.

Ann said she bought her's at the end of 1970... Not unusual for the Dealers at that time to keep the first 240Z for disply and to take orders off of. I'm guessing that is what happened in that case.

If we don't have one yet, we soon WILL have a 40-year owner!

I wonder how many of us original owners ever thought we would still have our cars 35 or 40 years later? ...probably none of us I expect! In my case, I came to a "crossroads" a number of times in regards to selling it, several were major life events like loss of a job and the passing of my first wife, others were minor like loss of the garage space...but each time I made the decision to keep it. After a certain amount of time goes by, it's not just a car, it's not just a formation of steel (some of it rusty!), but it becomes embedded in your life and is a partner in life. In one way or another, every major life event I've had in these past 37 years has involved this car. And then, I stop to think of all the people that have ridden in it and it just brings back so many memories. Drats, here I am getting all emotional

One thing for sure, had I known I was going to keep my car for this long, I wouldn't have made some sophomoric modifications to it 35 years ago :stupid:

They certainly do become part of the "fabric of your life" don't they? Take a moment to think back on all that has happened in your lives over the time you've owned your Z and the car remains a constant.

Some folks bought them, beat them and sold them. For others, it became part of the family. How else do you explain hanging on to a CAR for three decades or more???

I'm one of the origional owner crowd. Purchased mine in July 1970. Drove it home on Dec 7 1970, so 39 years, and 3 days of driving. It now has 260K miles and needs a paint job.

I bought my 72 240 on 17 Jun 1972. Drove it until 2000 when I put it in storage in the garage. It is now in the body shop for a rust removal job that will be about $10k worth. Hope to get it back up and running by spring. 217000 miles so far. So I am one of the babies at 37 years 6 months.

Technically, I don't qualify as a contiguous original owner. But I did buy my Z on 15 April 1970. Got a bad case of dumb-arse in '77 and sold it, but got lucky in '07 and got it back. The car will have it's 40th birthday next month, and I will celebrate our reunion again on tax day, 2010.

If the car was new on 15 April 1970 when you purchased it, I personally think that transaction makes you the original, or first, owner of the car, whether or not it has changed hands numerous times since that event. You may be the second, third, etc., legal owner of the car, but that doesn't change the fact that you originally purchased the car new.

This may be a question for Carl Beck, but thought I would give you my opinion.

Hi Dan:

Agreed - If you bought the car new from your Authorized Datsun Dealer and you still have it today - you are the original owner.

Now - we also have 2nd Generation Original Z Car Owners. As the Original Owners pass their 240Z's on to their family members. Otherwise all Original Owners would sooner or later be passing on themselves;-)

That is however somewhat different than the original question ask in this thread, but once and original - if you have the car you are still the original owner.
