Most of us have picked up old Zs from barns/garages/fields/etc over the years either for parts or restoration. What was YOUR best find?

Mine was a series one 1/71 car that had been off the road since 1981 and was in a garage. The owner was going to "fix it up someday". Well, someday never came and his wife had had finally had enough and wanted the car GONE. It was a rare blue with blue interior car that had the most badly rusted subframe I had ever seen on a Z (it was an upstate NY car). However it had low miles on the drivetrain and the interior was immaculate. I took it home and parted it out, still have some of the parts stored. Cost me $250.

My white 77 280z with 56K miles. It was given to me outright when I asked how much as the guy had been fooling with it for years and couldn't get it running. Turns out the feed wire and the ground wire to the fuel injection system are the same gauge red wires and they were simply crossed. That was 18 months ago. Now I have 7 of the blessed things.

Now if I could only get some heat out of it...........

I found my dads 71 resto when I was 14 when I was riding a gokart through my friends neighborhood. I saw the shape of it under a cover. I am now 30. It has sat undriven and well covered since 1979 (when I was born)

Although it had some frame damage from an accident, it had almost no rust and was intact. Interior is in pretty good shape too.

It still has the 79 inspection on it which will remain

Do you still have any of the immaculate interior parts? I own a blue/blue car. You might have something I could use, if you want to get rid of it.

I never had the luck of finding a Z tucked away somewhere. They are all rusted and gone around here years ago.

Sorry Marty, I sold the entire blue interior (door panels, headliner, seats, floor vinyl and plastic panels) to a fellow in Texas shortly after parting the car. For a nice profit I might add....

but the best b-day gift ever found by my significant other! although not a 240 but a 260 rather, the car had sat in the original owner's garage for at least the last 12-15 years! the car has a rough interior, but the exterior and engine compartment are 100% original and well preserved, it is my first Z, and very lucky, proud and greatfull to own it!

I got my Z three weeks ago (though I've coveted one since I was 12.) But the best barn find I got was in Hatch, NM. It was a 1958 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible--no rust, no dents. The first body style KG (1956-1958) was pretty rare to begin with, but 1958 was the first year for the convertible where they only made 1325 cars.

It was complete, but needed everything redone. I had to evict a family of rats when I towed it home.

Hatch?You would have been lucky to find poeple in Hatch.

I actually know people that chose to live in Hatch. Though if you are into dirt bike riding, there is a lot out there.

Nissan Sport Mag says HLS30-00013 is the "ultimate barn find".

nothing beats finding #13, but I found my parts Z on creigslist that had been in a garage since 1983. It is 918 orange with the '72 only white interior color combo and was built 11/71. When it came time for me to find a driveable Z I picked up a 72 the same build month and their vins are 3693 apart. perfect parts swap!
