What not to do on an early series 1?

I'll try to do this short.

I got an 1970 240z Vin # in the 25.. (Dont remember the exact number)

I got it from California and it's now in Quebec, Canada. I'ts been sitting in the chicken barn for 19 years!

It need a very good refreshment on paint and mecanic. Motor is #1.

I'Ve been stripping the paint and notice that it has been hit in the back. I had ½ inch of bundo at some place. The quarter are not that bad but the complete far end will cut and replace by a nice on I have. Damages are mainly around the rear lights and under the bumper.

Beside that, the PO had the good idea to install some mold splash guard. He cut a 1/8 line of around 8 inch long in the quarter to install them...

I don't have 20k or 30k to invest in it to bring it to show standard but I'm looking for a nice weed end ride.

Now my point is that since the quarters are damage and the rear end will be change, would some ZG flare properly install devrease the low vin value of the car?

I got a set of old school ROH 15x9 wheel that would be very ncie with ZG flares.

If desired, the changes that the PO made could be put back to the original style with some decent metal work. However this could be expensive depending on whether you can do it yourself or have to pay someone to do it. Doing so would probably increase the resale value of the car, however that also depends on the condition of the rest of the car.

If it were me and I was on a budget, I would go with what you have and take care of the things that really need attention like rusty floor boards, frame rails, gas tank, brake system, battery tray area, interior, etc. before trying to undo the body mods. That is unless they were poorly done and showing rust from beneath. Honestly, I kind of like the mods that were made, although given a clean body to start, I would not have done them myself.

Keep in mind that any permanent body mod will likely decrease the possible value of the vehicle, unless you find a buyer who appreciates and wants those specific mods or is willing to pay a premium for not having to do them himself.

the car is 99% rust free. I got surfcae rust under the battery tray.

This is suppose to be a white with blue interior. The interior is now black. Done by the PO :ermm:

It's a non matching motor number also. It's a L24 with a E88 but the vin number on the motor does'nt match the plate number in the engine bay,

So this is why i'm starting to think that this car will never have it's true value unleass I invest a lot of $.

I can do the metal work and body work.

This is what I would like to do with it.

Make the car what YOU want it to be. Decide whether you want a nice early Z to simply enjoy OR if you want it to be an investment.

Stock early Z-cars (that is the way they were born) will always have more value on the market. Making the car the way you want it has more value to you.

Your car looks like it is already pretty far from stock, so unless you want to invest that $30k PLUS to have a full size model, just enjoy the ride! It's all good.

As said above, non matching engine kinda gives you the excuse to go for it. Cars like the one in your pic can bring serious cash especially to the Hybridz crowd, only thing much more than that is Concours showroom stock IMO.

Heh heh "weed end ride" heh heh.

Well, he is from Canada after all ;). Every time I drive to Vancouver in the summer and have a window down, I catch a whiff of pot from at least one car at a stop light at some point during the trip.
