sounds like it is running to retarded if it wants to run on. Could also be too rich if the carbs are out of adjustment. Do one thing at a time other wise you will not know what is causing what. could you have inserted the dist shaft over to farr and retarded the timing that far?

I got on the zcar.com web site to find the ignition upgrade directions by johnH240, but didn't have any luck. I know this is asking alot, but could you possibly post the directions at this site?

the address for john is johnH240@hotmail.com he has this up grade down cold and I think he is the best source here. I know what worked for me but if for some reason you had something different going on he's the man.
