What does restoration mean to you.....

Hey Guys,

Now that 797 is coming to the final stages, what would you call the process that the car went through. I am reluctant to say I fully restored the car only because on a few areas we used different nuts and bolts that will never be seen.

While we did take the car down to bare metal, took out every bit of rust, replaced the floors with Zedds, took everything apart for paint, took out engine, trans, etc, I did make changes like electronic ignition, a fan shroud, and non braided hoses.

I guess the bottom line is this: If someone asked me this Spring about the car should I say I had it restored, or refurbished. I was just curious what others thought, as this term can mean soooooo many things.

To me I restored the car, is it concours....heck no, and I'm sure there are many purist who would be quick to find errors, but what does it mean to you.

refreshed- new paint and body work along with normal maintenance items like springs, struts and bushings.

restored- complete disassembly, complete body restoration, replating every nut and bolt.

restored improved- all the creature comforts you can't live without along with performance enhancers(engine, suspension, etc)

Down to bare metal, every nut and bolt replaced or refurbished?

Sounds like a complete restoration to me! :)

Congrats on approaching the finish line! I remember that feeling of satisfaction when you suddenly realize that there is nothing left to do!

People will argue over that single word used to describe the car. Instead of trying to use the proper specific word to someone who's asking why not show them all of the pictures of the progress and describe in detail everything that you've done. It sounds to me like your work has been far more thorough than most so you have no reason to be intimidated by the elite purists who claim it's not restored if it has one part that's not quite correct.

Agreed, restored it is what you did.

Way too many people say they restored something when all they did was repaint and some interior work. To me if body did not come off of the frame or the tub get blasted it was not restored. The proof will be in the pix you took along the way. JMHO, YMMV, Cheers Richard.
