BlueOvalZ - CarDomain's SOTY?

ZWOLF your link is bad in post #9

Use this - http://blog.cardomain.com/2009/12/22/peoples-choice-2009/ the other had missing letters for "people"

Thanks for having my back! I made the correction also.

Yesterday was interesting, the Mustang had a 22% margin increase in an hour and a half...incredible. Overall it elevated it's ranking by 30% in a matter of hours.

If it occurred in the first day of voting with a small number of votes cast I could believe it. But after a weeks worth of voting and I suspect thousands of votes cast, I suspect it would take hundreds of votes to make a swing like that.

There's still time!!;)

How do you know they just did not post on Mustang boards like you are posting on Datsun boards? There are a lot more Mustang guys out there compared to Datsun guys.

Good question. As explained in a previous post.

Later that afternoon his ranking shot up an additional 7% in a couple hours. This graph will illustrate the point.

Scores were recorded every morning and evening. The vertical column represents % values.

Regarding your question about posting on the boards. HybridZ was posted on the 22nd. ClassicZ, ZClub.net, and ZCar were posted on the 24th, Nissan Forums, and AusZCar were posted on the 25th.

You can see the influence of these post in the graph for the 240. As you can see huge fluctuations did not occur with these post, primarily because of the huge quantities of votes that had been cast in the opening days of the poll by the CarDomain community.

I realize the Ford/Mustang community is massive by comparison to ours, but the logistics of coordinating the amount of votes needed to create a swing of this size in a 6 hour period of time is nothing short of unrealistic.

Then.....to do it again the next day in a two hour period?????

Judge for yourself.

We have requested an audit of the poll.

Kinda a cheap shot there. I must assume from your comment that anybody that might win any contest is automatically precluded from lodging a protest simply because it would imply sour grapes? That IF ballot stuffing was indicated, all losers should "muzzle it" in regards to questioning the results (oh, they're just sore losers)?

If this were a poll that removed any duplicate ISP voting, then obviously we would have no leg to stand on, but I did manipulate the Scion vote, moving it up from 6% to 50% of the votes in a 1 hour period (this category was chosen so as to prove a point, not impact the Reader's Choice SOTY results, and because there was probably less total ballots cast in that category which allowed easier manipulation). Overall, I feel bad for everyone that supported and voted for any and all of the 5 candidates because the lack of any security in the poll (choice of cheapest polling product) allowed manipulation by simply removing the cookies, and then voting...click...click...click...over and over again. All that effort and no validity. We tried to prompt discussion on the Reader's Choice blog of the voting situation, but surprisingly most responses addressed personal car issues with no concern over the perceived ballot stuffing ('My wheels should have been in the poll instead of the ricer wheels'). Surprisingly, NO rebuttal by anybody at CD (that alone is disturbing) has been made toward this issue (everybody be quiet and maybe it will go away).

The BlueOvalZ rarely wins any awards simply because the import crowd cries because "its got a V8", and the Rodder crowd cries because it's a "ricer". And the judges don't know where it fits. So I don't figure I'll win anything even though the car draws great crowds, comments, and questions from the normal "I like cars" gear-head crowd that attends the shows. The issue with this vote is the atypical late-term count increase in such a short window, and worse, how unfair this was to all other candidates who may really want or desire the recognition.

It sounds like somebody could have easily leveraged the cookie exploit via a simple script to skew the results. Hopefully the admins at cardomain.com will perform a forensic review of the logs and determine if there was in fact any mischief. If so I hope they make it right, whatever the outcome is, and find a better voting polling solution for the future.

I hope that CD provides you with their interpretation of the results as well as an explanation of the abrupt voting surges that occurred. I don't want to come off as being unsupportive on this issue but the way it came down is not that surprising to me. The earlier suggestion that an appeal for votes was posted on the Stang sites makes perfect sense. I know the popularity of the Mustang vs any or all Datsun's is a mismatch at best and a few well placed posts may very have caused these results. We have a local Mustangs only meet in my locale that results in a gathering of about a thousand Mustangs. Compared to the mere handfull of Datsun enthusiasts in the area, it is overwhelming. I think an online proportional count would reflect the same.

Regardless, you can be assured there are many of us that appreciate and love the Blue Oval Z!
