Looking for Engine Block L24-2235

A needle in a haystack! I am looking for the original engine block from my 70 240Z vin# HLS 30-00029. I believe the engine was removed:cry: in the early to mid 70’s in the Albuquerque, NM area. That is all I have to go on. The Engine block is # L24 2235

Finding that would be a needle in a haystack. I have block L24-2585 that came of out HLS30-00331 though.

We have some members in the Abuquerque area, perhaps they might be able to help you in your search.

I guess it really depends on why #2235 was removed form the car:

Was the engine in need of repair and the PO replaced it with a newer engine rather than repairing or rebuilding it?

Was the engine blown, replaced and then scrapped?

Was your car once a V8 conversion and #2235 is in another 240Z in the Albuquerque area somewhere?

I see that you have owned the car since 1976, do you still have the PO's contact info?

If you find out that the PO is no longer living, perhaps you can track down his/her family and maybe one of them may remember what happened to #2235.

Steve, the car was and still is race prepared. I don’t know if the original engine was built for racing and blown then replaced or if a race engine was built and dropped in the car replacing the original engine. The car had a prepared L24 in it and a L26 spare when I purchased it in 1976. I purchased the car from an individual, James Campbell, in Abuquerque.

Interesting side note to #00029. I was looking through old magazines at my dad's place this weekend, and saw this classified ad in the Nov. '71 Road & Track (pg 126):

DATSUN 240Z

, No. 00029. BRE springs plus "Spook", mid-close 5-speed, Positraction, custom louvres, new 7-in. mags plus Dunlop VRs, cruise control, burglar alarm. $4995 or Jaguar 2+2 in trade.

I have seen that ad. Carl brought it to my attention a couple of years ago. I still have the BRE springs, 7” Mini Lites and 4:11 Limited Slip in the attic of my garage. It was not the exact history that I was given at the time that I purchased the car from Mr. Campbell in Albuquerque, but I do believe that Mr. Campbell probably purchased the car from that ad. On a more bizarre note I called a Mr. James Campbell in Albuquerque last night. I thought I had found the person from which I had purchased the car when he said that he had indeed sold his Z in 1976. Upon further discussion it was a red 1973 with 72 carbs and a vinyl top and he had sold it in Denver. Now I ask you, what were the odds? There are two J. Campbells in the Albuquerque area and I have left a message with the second. It’s a shot in the dark but a shot no less!

I wonder if the "cruise control" he mentioned in the ad was really the hand throttle that escaped removal somehow?
